I'm with you on that one. Hopkins, so desperately wanting this fight at this stage of their careers shows lack of class. He knows well that his style favours him ****ing strongly if it comes to aging. What does he want to proove? This win will count only to those who don't know boxing. In their primes RJJ beat him fair and square and with a broken hand I heard? Now Hopkins would gain MASSIVE RESPECT just saying that right now it's no longer competitive so he doesn't look forward to it. If Jones would start talking **** THEN - then maybe BHop should fight him just to give him a lesson. As it is - I hope Jones pulls this out and retires right after.
people are picturing roy jones fighting joe calzaghe or danny green for Bhop?(clearly since your mentioning "jones looked good against lacy, but how good will he look against bhop if he looked like crap past 5 against calzaghe?) styles, danny green, is a fast hardhitting stalker, MUCH faster at cruiserweight than hopkins at lightheavyweight green, and calzaghe, both pressure fighters, calzaghe with his 1000 punches and green with his hard, fast combo's, ****, danny green's jab is rock hard enough, it knocked down a guy i think, and it sent roy flying hopkins has none of those attributes, completely differrent style, doesn't pressure much at all nowadays, takes his time, picks his spots and after watching the ornelas fight, slow as hell, age has caught up with bhop even if he doesn't show it in his stamina unless pressured heavily roy is still fast, his chin, eh, it's still somewhat decent, i dont think bhop can end it with one punch that's for sure, and jones recovers fast(or atleast did in tarver III coming in looking fine the next round after being stunned) im sure if roy fought a former middleweight(like his fight with shieka and lacy) with no power like bhop did instead of a hard hitting cruiserweight champion he'd look pretty sharp still dont be suprised if jones win peeps
When you're a speed/reflex fighter it is impossible to roll back the years. Sorry to break the news to you.
The only thing I hope is that he doesn't go ahead and decide to fight Anderson Silva in the match-up that's been touted for ages. He's so far finished he'd probably end up getting KO'd, and we'd never hear the end of it from those MMA ***gots.
Is that in any way different than a shot MMA heavyweight getting KO'd by Ray Mercer and having to listen to mouth breathing boxing fans trying to use that to justify their baseless "SO AND SO is better!" claim.
Its sad to see Roy still out there when he is so far past it. He should have stopped after the Calzaghe fight. Honestly, he should probably have stopped after winning the HW champtionship. I don't see how he has a prayer against B-Hop, who has more in the tank, a great couter/defense game and has seen every trick Roy has played on someone else. Roys only hopes are: 1. Hopkins underestimates him, which I don't see happening. 2. A lucky punch, which always has a chance of happening. Bernard needs to stand back, counter, and wear him down. By 6 he should have enough openings to drop something heavy and maybe get a TKO.
I think RJ has a chance and will pull out some stuff we haven't seen from him in years. These 2 have a chemistry that can make for a great fight.
I know its a circus, and a meaingless fight, and that Roy is absolutely shot, but I'm loving the build up for this. Nice to see two boxers with massive personalities engaged in a genuine rivalary. The press confrences have been comedy gold.
