I had the fight a draw, but I thought Jacobs looked flat and his punches lacked snap and power. They were almost arm punches. Canelo has an iron jaw, but you could also see that Jacobs had little behind his punches. Jacobs definitely should be at 168.
Considering he didn't even adhere to the weight agreement, I think his performance had nothing to do with weight. To be fair, him and Canelo both were lacking fire tonight.
https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/ne...nelo-alvarez-fight-fined-for-each-pound-over/ Kind of puts it all in perspective, doesn't it? Jacobs refused to weigh-in against GGG. Can you imagine how big a fighter GGG was fighting that night, when he dropped Jacobs? Canelo knew this and now Jacobs is paying Canelo $750,000 in fines. Wow!
The only one affected by the weight clause is the man that abided by the clause and that’s canelo!!! Jacobs did not fullfil the weight restriction therefore it had no merit in his performance!! I think canelo could have knocked him out if he would have skipped the weight clause himself!!!
You're looking at it the wrong way. The fact that Jacobs weighed 173 was a sign that he tried to make 170, but just couldn't. He knew the financial penalties that were place. Jacobs was drawn and drained. He just came out and said as much and that he needs to head to 168.
Nah, Canelo weighs in at 173-175 on fight night. He probably didn't have to go out of his way much at all to abide by the rehydration clause.
Jacobs got penalized 250k USD per lb. I wonder what the upper limit on that is. What did Jacobs come in as for the Golovkin fight? 180 lb or something? So that's 10 lb over. A 2.5M USD penalty by the Canelo clause. I wonder if we could see a fine like that actually happen. Probably they would just cancel the fight.
Like I said the only one affected by the clause was the man that honorably abided by the clause! I think if canelo rehydrates himself normally he k.os Jacobs!
