And all of them have those nasty left straights. Never seem to miss them.

    Right!

If they were doing the majority of their damage with right hooks, we could just chalk it up to trainers "converting" right-handed novices while they're still in their larval stage.

It really seems there's just a bizarre coincidental influx of natural southpaws (or at least, naturally bigger punchers with their left) on the Japanese boxing scene. :huh

And a LWW prospect to look out for, too bad he fights twice a year, could be a force

The sad part about Ishida winning the way he did is that we may never seem him fight outside of Japan again. The big named Japanese managers are going to want to sign him and showcase him against easily winnable competition for the next couple of years. He's going to be a rockstar in Japan now. He isnt just your typical small weight Japanese boxer but a MIDDLEWEIGHT Japanese boxer.

I'll post the HBO version of the fight if I find it on YT, the part where Ishida gets a huge cheer from the crowd is amazing. You can see how stunned he is when he realizes the whole international crowd is supporting Japan through him, and see it as it is, the kind of lifting performance the devastated country just needed, to do something extraordinary in such demanding times. The part where HBO rushes for an interpreter because they never though Ishida would give an interview made it an even better underdog story.

I must admit I only read about Ishida before, haven't seen the Rigoberto Alvarez fight but read it was questionable, and that split decision loss in Mexico is the only blemish on Nobuhiro's reconrd in the past 7 years. He showed some nice handspeed and accuracy, every punch that landed were properly timed and placed, and the tactic worked to perfection, letting Kirkland rush into his bombs - now I want more of him!

Damn, I would even push for a Martinez-Ishida showdown for the Summer, both deserve to be back on screen soon.
