The Reputation of Lennox Lewis?

I think the 2 losses are seen in a "better" context as time passes but this happens with most fighters. Being ranked as a British fighter he's probably number 1 or 2 with Fitz no matter how harshly you judges the McCall and Rahman kos its only when you are ranking him ATG alongside heavyweights like Ali, Louis, Holmes etc that they become a real issue IMHO.

People saw him as the champ, and now people don't know what to make of the heavyweight division. His achievements are more appreciated now, then they were when he was champ.

 

Lennox gets big respect for avenging both his losses.

First off all, everyone like to look back with rose tinted specs and remembers things from a few years ago as better than today. But in this case there correct.

If there had been a couple of decent Heavyweight after him I am sure he wouldn't be held in such high regard but he is seen as the last great Heavyweight. Wlad Klitscko is just to boring so it goes against him plus he has losses to poor oppo which hurt his legacy. Vitali,no fault of his own has not faced anyone decent. Both brothers are missing career defining wins which mean they will never be considered top tier like Lennox.

Thats going of in a bit of a tangent but to sum it up Lennox reputation is more respected now than it was because he retired on top and nobody has replaced him.

The next great British Heavyweight......Anthony Joshua.

 

I think he gets more respect than when he was fighting, more due to the fact he wasnt appreciated ENOUGH pre-retirement ie getting the right amount of appreciation now. Lennox wasnt given due credit because of his tactical, caution 1st style that didnt appeal to some viewers particularly in the states I believe who have a history of exciting heavyweight legends (oh how times have changed :-( ) The Klitschko's might to some degree might have the same raise in respect when they retire, because boring or not they are the best in the division

 

Lewis was a betting outsider against both Golota and Gary Mason. And Razor Ruddock, but that one less surprising.

I think Lewis is seen in a less favourable light these days, considering his expliots in the ring and since been eclipsed by other great British heavies like David Haye and Audley Harrison.

 

Spot on, gold medal 2012 for me. Also what Lennox was able to do avenging both his losses is very rare and impressive, particularly in the fashion that he was able to do it. He beat everyone he had to to be undisputed no.1 heavyweight on the planet. Negatively he fought Tyson and Holyfield past his best and couldnt get the bowe fight which woulda been massive. But nevertheless a poor out of shape Lewis still was beginning to boss Vitali when the stoppage came and look how good a win that looks now.

I think he's left a big void that both Klitschko brothers have not filled.

I watched his fights against Morrison and Merder ther other day and he looked a million dollars - yep - even against Mercer when he had to tough it out when he critics said he couldn't. I think he was great for the sport and his reputation has enhanced since he retired.

yeh allot of people forget Ruddock was the favourite against Lennox.
