back in 2004-5 I hated Wlad. I can't stand overprotected heavyweights, and I picked Brewster to knock him out. I didn't think he'd have the heart to pick himself back up, and fighting Fabio Moli proved that to me...or so I thought.

So, I was looking at a Ring mag from 2005 the other day, and Wlad was not in the top 10 at heavy. And, now, in 2008, he has beaten 4 of the top 10 of 2005: Byrd, Brewster, Boxing Banker, Peter. Quite impressive.

yeah, he's bounced back nicely and has restored (or is coming close to) the family name which his quitting juicing brother has disgraced.

brock was a nobody, byrd was shot, peter was overated and wlad hugged and cheated all night versus Peter who was exposed by McLine, Brewster was shot and coming off a year lay off and a eye injury and Austin was a joke.
Until he fights real competition its hard to rate him, though he is doing well against the guys in front of him so what else can he do, but its not overly impressive.

wlad has done more than any other hw in the last 3 years.

i agree that brewster was damaged goods though. i've read some disturbing things about brewster's eye/health and how he was allowed to fight overseas but not in the u.s. due to his eye.

See what having a experienced Trainer can do for you.

It was like a 360 turn around when he got Steward in his corner - now he looks Unbeatable right about now.

Its not only the list of good fighters that Wlad beats, its also how he beats them.

I don't remember where it was that I read it, but wasn't Brewster's eye actually messed up as a result of his first fight with Wlad? Or did I get that wrong? Anyway, I agree, Wlad is by far the best there is right now, and will probably be the best for a long time (about 5 more years). There simply is nobody out there that brings everything to the table the way this guy does. I hope he is allowed to unify the titles and finally ends the mess that started back in the days of Riddick Bowe.

It was after the Liakhoich fight when Lamon's eye got messed up.

The Bowe situation was fixed in 1999, but the WBA decided to strip Lewis for fighting Grant instead of Ruiz.

I didnt say that Wlad wasnt the bst around today, but the people he has beaten in his last few fights dont tell us anything to be impressed about, he has beaten who they put in front of him and as i said, what more can he do than that, its unfortunate and not his fault that there is no opponent today worthy of making us impressed if he beats them. People were talking up Povetikin but he is just so ordinary, Chagaev struggled against the hapless Skelton, Peter has been exposed, Maskaev is old and clearly just wants a payday, Ibragamov is too small and cant even beat Austin, the only guy that would beat Wlad is Vitali.
To be impressed we need to see a high level opponent fight him, only then we will see if he has improved, it could be a long wait, until then let the hype blow you away.

Great point. I am not going to get into the merits of his resume (and imo, since 1998 he has accumulated a very good resume for a 31 year old), but NO ONE, I mean NO HATER, can deny that Wlad ****ING WINS A FIGHT VIOLENTLY. His knockouts lately are VICIOUS!!!
