He's going to end up suffering long-term damage by continuing. He's always fun to watch but I'd prefer he retired. If he's going to continue, I agree that Ortiz makes sense. That could be sold very easily on their distaste for each other and they're both well past their best, so it would probably be competitive.
I don't see the Rios/Ortiz bout ever happening. Rios would take it right now but Ortiz will never agree to fight Rios. Unless the money offered was off the charts or the fan outcry was also off the charts. Ortiz knows how hard Rios would train and how hard he would fight to end Ortiz's career forever. The animosity between them is real. Rios hates Ortiz because Ortiz is a dis-loyal, back stabbing liar. Ortiz hate Rios because he knows that Rios knows he is a back stabbing liar. I talk to both fighters family members regularly. Even Ortiz's sister knows Victor is a wuss and does not want to fight Rios.
Rios could still give good fights if he gets back to the basics that made him successful in the first place. He should stay busy and fight one or two unranked fighters, then maybe someone like Josesito Lopez. Then the Ortiz grudge match. If he wins the Ortiz fight, then try to get at Broner. He could do damage on the inside as long as he doesn't just stand in front without head movement. Or maybe Paulie, that would be low risk for decent money.
Inactivity has been the problem from day one. Had his management and Top Rank kept him busy and in the gym, we would not be talking about his retirement or weight issues.
I called Rios' entire career the moment he got that win over the Peterson bro on HBO. He's done. If I were his promoter/manager? -literal sub-.500 guy -Ray Nahr -that dude who had a spirited loss against Sadam Ali -retirement paycheck vs. Provodnikov
Rios is finished. Isn't motivated to train. Has taken way too many hits(already shows bad signs of pugilistic dementia). And has put his body through the wringer by not staying in shape between fights. Guy had his chance in the Bradley fight to at least show something in a loss. And ****ing pulled an Alvarado...pathetic.
