People tend to view right hooks for orthodox fighters and left hooks for southpaws as wild, sloppy, and a technical mistake; not an unreasonable stance since most of the time the boxer throws them that way. Guys like Mosley, a prime Holyfield, and even Lennox Lewis, who threw "shaped" or "curved" right hands rather than just straight rights show that the punch is highly underutilized, and when trained well can turn the tide of a fight in a hurry. Not all right hooks or overhand rights are hail mary's or wild bombs, and it is nice to see a guy like Mosley use them so well; hopefully other boxers will start to actually use them as Mosley does rather than just thinking of them as a weapon of last resort, leaving them untrained.
not all, granted, but they are the mark of an unschooled fighter when overused or used in the wrong situation.
If you time it right it can be a hellacious weapon but, if you are in there looping your right hand sloppily, you will get taken
