The super feather showdown between JMM and Pac is happening soon . . . so we will have a Ring champ at that weight class comes March.
Floyd & Cotto should be fighting............... Sam Peter doesn't deserve the #2 Heavyweight spot either.
IF that happens he'd just make the top 3 or 4 at best IMO. Cahgaev is def. better & right now Sultan is higher than Peter so how would Peter beating Maskaev elevate him above Iggy? The Ring's ratings suck at Heavyweight.
No, we already went over this, Peter has beaten better competition and I layed out the fights to compare the two. I do agree however, that Chagaev should be ahead of Peter at the moment, based on his most recent fights, him beating better competition. If Peter does infact blow Maskaev away I feel he takes the 2 spot. It really doesnt matter if you have Sultan ahead of Peter at the moment because the Wlad fight happens in another 9 days, and the Peter/Maskaev fights a couple of weeks away, which means Sultan should be out of your top 5 soon enough.:yep
...........which would def. secure Peter the number 4 or even the number 3 spot depending on how Peter wins. A win over an Old Oleg, who has been KO'd before, would not nec. propel him to the number 2 spot unless he wins early & convincingly. Even then it depends since Maskaev has been KO'd by Lance Whitaker, Kirk Johnson, etc., it's not like that egg hasn't been cracked before.
But these our fights that happend many years ago, that would be like me saying, Sultans going to lay out Wlad because he had his chin cracked by guys like Brewster, Purrity, and Sanders, both men have long string winning streaks which led them to be now title holders. I would give Sultan big props if he knocks out Wlad, as you should if Peter knocks out Maskaev.
Maskaev is a consensus top-5 heavyweight right now, layoff or not. Some of that may be due to the general weakness of the division, but still, he is a top 5 fighter. Chagaev probably does deserve to be ranked ahead of Peter right now, however, if Peter beats Maskaev impressively, I see no problem with him leapfrogging Chagaev. Chagaev's last win was over Skelton, who barely cracks most people's top 20. Not bad, but a convincing win over Maskaev definitely outranks a decision over 40 year old Skelton.
