Its nothing more than a popularity contest. Pacquiao could take the year off, he'd still win FOTY

Not for me. I don't give a **** about Bute or Ward. Kessler and Abraham are world class fighters. Bute isn't in the SS.

The fact that he put on two great performances is enough for fighter of the year. It's not like he fought fights against bums.

1-1 record doesn't mean ****! It was a close fight which was arguably one of the FOTY.

Wow, Pacquiao's activity easily translated to popular votes. Can be attributed to more casual fans for the sport which is good.

pac beat a damaged goods Clottey who had just lost to Cotto (and who pac recently anniihilated) then went on to beat a damaged goods ring rusty Margerito who had been in his last fight demolished by mosley!!

not my idea of fighter of the year!!

I can remember I was watching a football game on tv years ago and they said in the studio that fans were already phoning in for Eric Cantona to be man of the match and the game hadn't even kicked off.

"Indeed, it wasn’t Pacquiao’s greatest year in terms of accomplishments but it certainly was a productive one.

And we shouldn’t downplay the role of the fans who voted for Pacquiao in overwhelming numbers.

Boxers don’t perform in a vacuum. The fans are part of the equation, which is why many of us believe a fighter’s ability to entertain the masses is one factor in determining greatness."

That's exactly what Martinez did to Pavlik. The difference is that Pavlik was a lot more heavily favored against Martinez than AA was against Froch. In addition to that, Martinez KO'd the guy that most ranked #3 p4p while Froch lost to a guy with eye problems who had badly lost his previous fight. I agree that Froch deserves mention, he definitely deserves it more than Pac, but Martinez is the clear choice. Considering that prior to this year most didn't consider him a top 10 p4p fighter and now he is almost unanimously considered the #3, you have to name him FOTY.
