Anyone who is well placed in the top 10 p4p and arguably the best head to head fighter in a division is absolutely fair game for anyone in that respective division. That isn't to say that Hopkins shouldn't get some slack from the fans, no fan should criticise him if he picks the path of least resistance from this point to retirement, but he should be subject to the norms of matchmaking like any fighter.

Hopkins would make guys like Cloud and Pascal look useless. I don't see how anyone could criticise Dawson for going after the best available fighter in the division, especially when its also the most lucrative. If a fight was actually signed, you would hope he kept the verbal side of things in decent taste, and if he beat him, he wouldn't have the right to act like he beat the best version of Bernard.

No, i don't agree with him.

Hopkins is still a top 5 P4P fighter and the number 2 rated LHW behind Dawson. It makes every sense in the world for Dawson's team to call out Hopkins. Financial wise and legacy wise. It's a win-win for Dawson.

    Ridiculous comments.

The Ring themselves rank Hopkins as the best opponent Dawson could possibly face in his weightclass. If Hopkins had announced his retirement, than Dawson calling him out would be unseemly (see Froch/Calzaghe). While Hopkins claims to be an active fighter, no problem whatsoever with Dawson wanting to fight him.

Absolutely agree with this. Dawson should be much more active while he is in his prime. I don't like all the old matches with old fighters either but the division is full of them, so I don't hold it agaisnt him.

I would hope Dawson and his team wouldn't go this route. Noone, except maybe Johnson, wants to see this one again.

    Total rubbish.

Is it unseemly for Ring magzine to rate Hopkins P4P top ten?

Disagree, Hopkins is highly rated by The Ring, & P4P #4 no less (not that I really think much of The Ring with some of the things ive read or there ratings) so why shouldnt any boxer want to face someone rated higher than them to prove themselves?

I somewhat agree with him. Hopkins is 45 years old and taking on a young lion like Dawson is simply too much to ask

Yeah, I consider Hopkins in his own division at this point dictating his own rules. The man has earned that right and as long as he isn't standing in the way of Light Heavyweight match-ups that actually mean something I have no problem with him. Hopefully now Hopkins and Johnson can come together on a second fight. It would certainly be better than Hopkins-Jones II

So since Green already knocked out Jones Junior in first round
then I guess he deserves to be at least top 3 p4p ...
I guess RJJ is still a proper measure stick for the p4p status right?

I think the ridiculous is that Hopkins may give rematch to Winky Wright
and then to Oscar DLH again and he will be still #1 LHW in the world
    at the age of 49.

But funnier would be if he give shot to PAC at catchweight ... say
160lb and then PAC will get this VERY PRESTIGIOUS Ring LHW belt
..... which truly indicate the best LHW fighter since Jones Jr
entered this weight class and dominated all possible opponents
so he was undoubtedly the only and the real champion over here.

    No.

Since people and Hopkins himself are saying he's at least one of the top two light heavyweights out there he should still have to fight real fighters. He and some others are still claiming he's the best in the division, so he has to fight Dawson if that's the case. I personally don't want to see this fight, because I do think that Hopkins is too old. He would get a pass from me if everyone was realistic about who he actually is right now, but saying he's one of the best if not the best in his division and then turning around and saying he's too old makes no sense.

Dawson is a *****, plain and simple. Instead of calling out young and prime fighters like Ward, Keesler, Frotch, Dirrell, Abraham, Pavlic, Taylor he's calling out old grandpappy Hopkins. :patsch

Hopkins did say he would fight the winner of dawson johnson as someone said so i can completely understand him giving it another go, hopkins shouldnt have said that as its pretty obvious he has no intention of going through with it

It makes me laugh how a year ago Calzaghe was cherrypicking Jones as Jones was shot.

A year or so on, Jones gets wiped out in a minute, Hopkins still fights him yet Hopkins gets props and people making excuses for reasons for him to fight Jones.

Dawson is the number one at 175.

Hopkins knows that thats why he is moving hell and high water to keep Dawson away from him.
