Anyone putting Gonzalez above Ward is crazy, I had the fight a draw but it was so tight either man couldn't have got a win no probs. I also had the Gonzalez fight a draw and either man could won that. Now I don't know about you guys but p4p Kovalev is a level above Caudras so how can you guys say Gonzalezs win was more impressive. Andre can never get a fair shake.
If Kovalev had got that decision we wouldn't be having polls about who no.1 is and the haters know this
But if you thought Kovalev deserved the win - and many do - how can you rank Ward higher than Kovalev?
Because Ward got the decision, if Kovalev did I would put him no.1 it was that close of a fight I put Ward 1. and Kovalev 2. After the rematch it would switch around if Kovalev got the win. I don't like Kovalev and I'm glad Ward got the win but he was very impressive in there really elite and if he knocks Ward or outpoints him In the rematch his no.1 for me no doubt about it.
P4P is supposed to rank who the better fighter is, not what's on your resume. Resume is used to inform that decision because there usually isn't a direct way of comparing P4P fighters in different divisions or who haven't fought yet, but when two guys have just fought it out at the same weight, the one you think won has to be the one you rate higher P4P. At least that's my understanding... even though I also think that P4Ps a steaming bag of subjective ordure.
One could argue that Gonzalez didn't do enough to win his last fight as well, his victory was certainly as razor thin as Ward's.
I get your argument but it's such a subjective topic that for me I take both into consideration, the skilled boxer in more legacy defining fights moves up my list, so if Crawford becomes undisputed his in the same category as basically Ward and GGG but some guys fought tougher opposition to get there. For GGG to become undisputed he wil have to fought Lemieux, Nunez, Saunders and got gifted a belt Ward will have to have fought Kovalev and Stevenson. Crawford will have to have fought Burns, Dulorme, Postol and troyvanosky. Without a doubt Andre Wards schedule is tougher than the other two so because there all skilled I will go for Ward top of my list. Skills is can be very peferenced based whereas resume is abit more subjective.
Given how close the fight was and how Roman Gonzalez is a legit ATG and Ward isn't, I think it's the right call. I have deduced that The Ring criteria is clearly is in this order: Who did you beat...how good did you look against them...how have you beat in the last few years..what achievements did you receive in doing that...how good did you look against them. Obviously you get corruption with undeserved people being P4P. I feel Naoya Inoue should be in the list, but I understand that he hasn't fought anyone of note for a while.
If you scored it for Ward then you can make the argument for sure but I think it's hard to ignore Ward's lack of activity over the last few years in comparison to Roman collecting world titles with less controversial wins
I'm just happy that both Kovalev and Ward are ranked over Gennady. In fact, I believe Lomachenko should also be rated higher than Golovkin. Now that is a fighter that's dared to be great in his short stint as a pro. Already fighting in multiple weight divisions and he's fighting the best possible opposition out there. I also believe he's just simply a more skilled fighter than Golovkin as well.
Because Gonzalez's overall body of work has been more impressive. He's an ATG. The general consensus of boxing analysts was also that Gonzalez beat Cuadras.
Is his body of work better than wards if you factor in the Kovalev win? I don't think so but don't get me wrong I think Gonzalez is a spectular fighter but I would prefer he snatched a few belts by beating the best in each division he's in rather than jump up once he has one belt same with lomachenko.
