Yeah, and it would sure give him credibility in the "if I say he beats Hagler then that makes me look better" category.

 

Hagler looked pretty lethargic against Roldan, but given all the footage we have of him it's hard to point at a lack of inside fighting ability as to why he'd lose there.

Anyway, I thought you said Cerdan wasn't going to pressurise Hagler.

 

I am guilty of forgetting that. Still, does not a great middleweight ledger make. A very good one mind, and I'll take Cerdan over say, Sergio Martinez.

 

Cerdan's fit for ANY middleweight in history, and that is always the best and safest way to rank these guys. Why? cause their all great and we can't always envision the outcome, nor are the outcomes always a certainty.

Cerdan could beat Hagler, of course he could. too many people just can't see past a supposed American dominance, not true, not all across the board. the Very Best, No matter where they come from are fit for most of their peers globally.

and this "past it" Zale business, yes Zale was at the end of his career, SO WAS Cerdan, they'd both been fighting for just about as long as each other and the age diff was only about 2 years.

Could Hagler beat Cerdan, of course he could, but on their best night Cerdan is as tough or tougher than most Hagler faced, Cerdan just doesn't stop.

and if your talking overated it is LaMotta who spent too many years beating smaller welters and lets not forget DAMN near everybody has Cerdan beating Jake in the rematch, because of a very serious fight affecting injury the first time out.

Cerdan was/is one of the greatest MW's just as Marvin Hagler is too. Come out of America and stop holding onto national stupidity, these fighters were/are great, because their great, not just because they were in the states.

I've said it a million times, Robert Villimain, a WW cum MW, a very small middle too, ****en shock up everybody including Jake, yet the little Eric Boon, the LW cum WW at the very end of his career is involved in "Fight of the Year" with Villimain.

Cerdan could beat Hagler in the same manner he beat many a great fighter, not hard to see nor accept at all.

The opposite, actually. Like Tunney saying Dempsey wipes the floor with the 50's HW scene in 5 rounds (Charles, Walcott, Marciano, etc).

Qawi said straight after the Spinks fight he was unimpressed with Spinks' 'running'.

 

Check out the spread in Sports Illustrated. Qawi had a cold and thought Spinks' use of his left hand (brilliant IMO) was because he didn't want to over commit with the right.

 

I beg to differ. Ray Arcel went on record as saying that America never saw Marcel at his best. Before the war and over in Europe, Arcel said Cerdan was really more of a boxer, but was past his prime when he finnally came to America and thus his style changed. Really much like Hagler's did after he got older after 1983, when he was reaaly a boxer formost.
