The Ring magazine - Froch, Bute, Ward, Cloud, Dawson, Kessler

Ward beating Kessler is greater than anything Bute has done, and by the time the s6 is over that distance will increase. Both Froch and Kessler have greater victories than Bute does. I also put them ahead of Bute. Thats the only fair way to look at it when you consider Bute greatest victories are full of the usual suspect/opponents- Andrade Miranda -Bika a few lukewarm bodies and a collection of cans, what single Victory can Bute claim that is greater than the ones Froch Kessler and Ward have on their resumes?

the aggregate of B and C class opponents dont equal an A no matter how hard you try and spin it and Magee isnt an A either so lets put that one to rest..

 

Listening to you we could think that a defeat agains't a A fighter is better then a win agains't a B fighter!:huh

Although i disagree with the premise as im a fan as all real boxing fans are of the best fighting the best i cannot argue that Bute has a better resume than Ward and ward beat kessler who beat froch so that has to be the order although it pains me greatly.

EDIT: However, if Ward beats Abraham and Froch beats johnson and kessler beats who ever he ends up fighting next (hopefully he kos Dirrell) then i think he falls to 4th

tbh,right now,who the hell has bute fought???,he was offered into super 6,you think they would have 2 drop outs and not offer bute in???.

wards fought at home and kessler is the only decent opponent.

 

The Ring Magazine ratings are somehow justified: they take in account the quality of opponents, the recent performances( or inactivity) and in some measure the resume.

For a short period of time Ward was ranked first after beating Kessler but Bute knocking out Andrade impressively made RM to rank Bute 1st.

Before The Road warrior KO'ed Green, Magee was at 10, probably beacause his string of wins topped by his recent victim, the decent Mads Larsen.

Dirrell's good performances against Abraham and Froch makes him a top 5.

Though Bika lost 2 in a row his performances were very solid (should've KO'ed Mendy and took at least 4 rounds from the Ward fight).

Stieglitz had a decent streak of wins against B and C level opponent topped by Balzsay (also he won his first fight with Berrio) and tough he lost to Andrade in the past, Andrade lost recently 3 fight against A level opposition and except the 12 round with Bute, looked rather awfull in the process; that's why it sounds reasonable for Stieglitz to be at 7 and Librado at 8; and if Stieglitz beats Sartison he might surpass Bika.

Now, regarding Froch, there could be made an argument right now for him to be at 2nd if we looked at his resume; only Kessler has it better but Froch has the more recent good fights. Kessler's injury coupled with Froch's impressive victory over Abraham, make his claim to be over Kessler somehow normal; a rematch could sort things out as i believe, if it happens, that Froch will have the upper hand over Kessler at this point. Froch is not over Bute now because of his perfomances, (excluding Abraham, a natural MW); yeah, he looked good in his defeat against Kessler but his victories over Taylor (former undisputed MW), Dirrell and even Magee weren't impressive at all (i had it 114-114 with Dirrel excludind the point deduction; he looked really slow in that fight; Taylor was ahead and Magee was very close behind before they got KO'ed) .

Now, in the event Froch beats Johnson and Bute doesn't face and win against either Dirrell or Kessler, then Froch claim at 2nd spot is justified. I wouldn't mind if RM pus their belt at stake in a very probable S6 final- Ward vs. Froch; they will still have to defend it , right?

I think Showtime will have a doubleheader: the S6 final and Bute vs. Dirrell or Bute vs. Kessler or Kessler vs. Dirrell thus the S6 final becoming a ... semifinal.

 

i forgot to add that RM offers some explanations when they are modifying their rankings: i remember reading at some point that they made a comment which was leading to the ideea that the undisputed champ at 168 will be decided when Ward will face Bute; i think you could still find this on their site
