when fighters have been out due to injury its not very fair to drop them. why should they have to work their way up again?
But JMM lost to the (at the time) #2 P4P fighter. And there was no one around to leap frog him really. Rafa should have dropped further after his loss to Izzy but he was still in my top ten immediately after. Dropped through inactivity since though.
Your credibility is so much higher. They have a board for the ratings made up of boxing folk Ring affiliated and not related to the mag. Send them an email.
atsch If it was up to idiots like you, the top 10 would be 15-20 fighters long... dip****, they can't include EVERYONE who wins a friggin title or two..
You've completely stole my thunder. Their history requires The Ring magazine to be respected by all but at the moment they aren't the best magazine on the market. I'd put our (British) Boxing News WAY above it and when Boxing Monthly is good it is better, but sometimes Boxing Monthly has some poor, not awful but poor, issues.
Pound for Pound Currently on The Ring: 1. Manny Pacquiao - Kinda hard to argue that at the moment. 49-3-2 2. Juan Manuel Marquez - Fought Pac twice, cheated once and barely beaten once, he's 50-4-1 3. Bernard Hopkins - 50-4-1 - Also remember the tromping he gave Kelly Pavlik, and the fact that Calzaghe won a SPLIT decision and Calzaghe retired Undefeated. 4. Shane Mosley - 46-5-0 - After the beating he gave Marga-cheat-O, and the people whom he has beaten and/or fought and lost to in the past... 5. Israel Vazquez - 43-4-0 - Honestly, I've only seen the guy fight 3 times and I'm a HUGE boxing fan. I even watch it subtitled on Telemundo and the other spanish channels when I find it. Not sure I can voice an opinion here one way or another, haven't seen enough of him to argue for either. The Vazquez/Marquez fights were amazing to behold, but look what happened to Ward/Gatti after those fights, same thing here.... 6. Rafel Marquez - 37-5-0 - Same as Vazquez - Haven't seen enough of him. The fights with Vazquez were amazing... I know he has 33 knockouts out of 37 wins which tends to lead to a powerful fighter or someone who KO's club fighters to build a record. Honestly read my comment about Marquez, they had some fantastic fights with each others, real fight of the decade stuff, but I wonder if that just wasn't fantastic Chemistry, kinda like Pac/JMM. 7. Miguel Cotto - 33-1 - Miguel is impressive as hell. I'm still not sure he's going to recover from the Marga-Cheat-O beating, and if he loses to Clottey I'm sure he'll fall off the list to be replaced by Clottey very quickly. 8. Nonito Donaire - 21-1-0 with 14 KO's - I believe Pac's success has drawn attention to this little Philippino moreso than his ability. While he's an impressive little fighter, I don't believe he ranks above Vic Darchinyan, who is a beast. 9. Vic Darchinyan - 32-1-1 - I said it before, guy is a nightmare of a little man. I'm thinking he should be ranked higher honestly, I've seen about 9 of his fights now, he's a monster. 10. Celestino Caballero - 32-2 - Who? My Thoughts: Where the #### is Edwin Valero? This is Pound-For-Pound, right? Size is a consideration, otherwise you wouldn't have the tiny guys like you do on this list. What is really a joke, are the WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO rankings. The Ring is a pretty good Magazine, I've been a subscriber for 14 years now. Sometimes I don't agree with it, but you'll find that with any Fan'zine. We are called "Fans" which is short for: Fanatic. We are passionate about our sport, as it should be! Don't limit yourself to one magazine, one forum, one outlet, etc. But what do I know?
I agree, The Ring isn't a credible boxing publication anymore. Anyone who thinks that they are really unbiased with their rankings is kidding themselves.
Its sad what the ring has become. I still like their ring champions though. Even if their rankings are ****.
From here - http://www.ringtv.com/about/ This is nuts. The magazine admitted fault after awarding Vitali the championship in 03 or so. So they went out and this is the board now - Mark Abrams 15rounds.com Carlos Arias Orange County Register Eric Armit British Boxing Yearbook Bill Calogero thedailysports.com Nick Charles Showtime Brian Doogan London Sunday Times Coyote Duran doghouseboxing.com J. Boxrec? the WBC/A/O, IBF?
i still respect the ring magazine's list...but they made a lot of mistakes but they are open to changes. the way the shuffle their p4p rankings last week is a sign that they admit their mistakes
