Of course his team didn't make excuses they would have been labeled a disgrace to boxing for conning everyone Look at the fight and the way Sergio is unable to put weight in his knees and move and tell me he was 100%? Even if he was 100% he would still have been past his best, he daughter Sergio at about 20-25% of his best
I bought a Ring magazine the other day, Flicked the pages...and thought someone had slipped a "Top Shelf Magazine" inside it ...it was full of pictures of a reclining scantily clad round card girl... A nice person I'm sure, But could these pages be put to better use....?
I think when Nigel Collins left and Ring was sold to Golden Boy. When the Ring title returned in the early 2000's, only a select few championships were given out. They only gave it to undisputed champions like Lewis, Hopkins, Jones, and Tszyu. But along the way they became a lot more liberal in awarding championships, and went away from their statement of only awarding belts when a #1 faces a #2 or possibly #3 in the division. Linear titles really don't mean as much to me anymore. The main reason is that some fighters are not given the opportunity to fight the best. For instance, Kovalev is probably #2 or #3 at LH, but because of circumstances outside his control he'll not have the opportunity to fight for the Title. Same with Golovkin. Would you have seen Martinez, or now Cotto, ever give him the opportunity to win the Title? Not likely. Originally, they claimed that while they couldn't necessarily strip the champion, but they could apply written pressure to coerce fighters to adhere to their mandatory challenges. But nobody really cares what the Ring says anymore, and in the case of Stevenson it is preferrable to take millions for cherry picks than to take a few written jabs by a friendly magazine.
