We can almost certainly agree that Mayweather doesn't belong in the top 10, hallowed ground reserved for names like Robinson, Armstrong, Ali, Louis, Pep, Greb, ect. And the opinion here is that for all his remarkable talent, his body of work isn't enough to crack the top 25 either. Looking at that 19-42 range, the upper end just doesn't seem right given the talent pools of the past.

So our final declaration is this: if Mayweather never fights again, he ranks somewhere in the second 25 in boxing history, pound-for-pound, taking into account both his ability and his accomplishment. "Pretty Boy" and his devoted fans may not want be happy to hear it, and the Floyd haters probably won't like it either, but that's where he belongs.

    That's probably fair.

"Oh he should be top 25, top 20, top 10, etc........"

People act like being in the top 50 ever in the Queenbury era isn't some remarkable achievement.

Top 50 seems about right. He had the talent, but not the achievements for top 25 status.

Go out of retirement and clean up the WW Floyd.

    Here is the logic:
Margo will rematch and beat Williams
Clottey will beat Margo in rematch
Floyd jumps in and get easy win over Clottey.

Yep, nothng to mock about. No fighter of the last 20 years with the exception of Whitaker and Chavez earns a ranking inside the Top30.

I agree with this. He had the talent, but doesn't have the resume. Great fighter, but then you have to be great to be in the top 50 ever. I think he'd be 30-50, behind only Whitaker, Jones Jr, Chavez, Holyfield and Lewis of the last 25 years.

There's no argument for him to be in the top 25 unless it's based purely on paper titles and not opposition/ring dominance.

I need more time to do more research, but my impression right now is that top 30-50 is about right.
