THIS LIST IS ****.

Apart from the usual bias towards fighters from the distant past, there are some ludicrous ratings here.

The top 10 is acceptable. It wouldn't be my choice though. Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey and Joe Gans are too high. Greb is too low.

After the top 10, it gets a bit silly.

This is absurd and reeking of biased nostalgia.

The idea of Whitaker and Monzon being behind Barrera and De La Hoya is insane.

But the worst part of it all is... Smokin' Joe Frazier tucked in there ahead of Ezzard Charles at #26. Frazier surely is the most overrated fighter in history, judging by this rating.

Yes, he was a very good heavyweight and rightfully a HOF fighter- but 26th ever?? Ahead of Ezzard Charles, and miles ahead of Hagler, Hearns, Arguello, Monzon, Whitaker and Jones Jr?? Laughable. I think Frazier should struggle to get into the top 50.

A record of 32-4, held the heavyweight title for a grand total of 3 years, lost twice each to the only 2 great fighters he ever fought, including 2 obliterations by Foreman (Foster wasn't a great at heavyweight). He had some very good wins (Quarry, Ellis, Young etc), but nothing stellar- certainly nothing to justify being the 26th best fighter ever ahead of guys like Charles and Monzon. His reputation is what it is for his performances v Ali. Admittedly they were great performances, but I don't think he was any better v Ali than Ken Norton was, so I don't see why he's rated so highly on the back of those performances, unless it's just because they were exciting fights that lived on in the memory. How anyone can say Joe Frazier was a better heavyweight or a better fighter p4p than Lennox Lewis is incredible to me, I can't even see how that's a debate- and Lewis doesn't even make it into this Top 50!! Bias again.

And I think Mayweather is harshly treated in this list too. He should definitely be higher. But the whole list needs destroyed and rewrote again anyway, IMO.

These guys for starters & I actually removed a lot of guys that I havent seen enough of or know enough about or both.

PLEASE dont have me sticking up for Mayweather, I dont like the ***** but you cannot dispute his greatness for this era, you can only be the best in your own era, nobody elses era & Mayweather is & has been for a while now.

It's not that Mayweather isn't great (even most of his haters admit that he is great), it's more the fact that there have been a lot of greats throughout history.

Being a top 25, top 30, hell even top 50 fighter all-time is an amazing feat.

 

Just hecause Arguello was a classy guy who doesn't have street cred and doesn't floss his bling with 50 Cent doesn't mean he rates behind Mayweather.

Compare their resumes. Floyd was great at one weight, Arguello was class at 3.

Floyd's resume: De La Hoya, Castillo, Corrales, Hatton, Hernandez, Judah, Baldomir, Gatti, Mitchell, etc.

Arguello's resume: Olivares, Chacon, Limon, Edwards, Ramirez, Mancini, Navarette, Escalera, Castillo, Watt, Legra, Kobayashi, etc.

You lose! And if you try to throw in the likes of Manfredy, N'Dou, Sosa, etc like all Floud groupies do, I'll simply throw in Arguello's other wins.

 

So how can you be sure he rates ahead of those guys if you just admitted to knowing nothing about them? Don't speak on subjects you aren't learned enough in. And especially don't call out others on topics you admit to not knowing enough about, makes you look ignorant.

Guys like Ross, Canzoneri, Griffith, Ortiz, Gavilan, Williams, etc all have FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR superior resumes to Mayweather.

 

this is just plain and basic common sense. every real boxing fan knows mayweather was scared to face any real challenge above 130. his resume is a joke because most of the guys floyd beat were already washed up.

 

mayweather only gets recognition because of his talent. his resume is a pathetic joke. if he would have spent more time fighting and less time ducking then maybe he could have been considered a truly great fighter.
