Why would I be biased to rate those fighters ahead of Floyd and pick them over him? Please explain that at least.

And yes, you're definitely thinking of someone else. I wouldn't dream of picking Floyd over Gavilan at WW. Floyd was far from a great WW. He was only a truly great fighter at 130 IMO. He could've hung with most anyone at 135 and 140, but I wouldn't favor him over most of the elites at these weights(or at least 135), and definitely not at 147.

You shortened it up because you don't know who the fighters are or what their worth was. Mancini was certainly better than the likes of Gatti and at least as good as someone like Hatton. I'd favor him over Corrales at LW and have him 50/50 with Castillo.

You simply don't know enough about boxing to properly debate with. You're a novice, plain and simple. Every one of the fighters you bolded were accomplished and highly rated fighters, most of them champions. What an unbelievably ignorant post.

I think you are applying a 21st century (and especially that of Money Mayweather) mindset to a man who wasn't guilty of it.

Knowing what I know of Arguello, if a weaker champion had been around at the same time as Pryor who had a massive regional following (like Hatton does), so the fight would have given him a bigger payday but would have meant less in p4p/legacy terms, and Arguello could only fight 1 of them, I honestly believe Arguello would have went for the glory and tried to beat Pryor.

To be honest, I shouldn't have said 21st century mindset, as there are probably guys of this era who think like that too. I'm not saying they don't care what they get paid, Arguello like every other fighter in history would demand to be paid acceptably, but what I am saying is that it wasn't their primary/only motivation- glory and greatness were more important. I get the feeling Erik Morales had this type of mentality too, though I don't know for sure.

Some of you guys are extremely Naive. That Hatton fight made Floyd $20 million. He wasn't making anywhere near that for any other fighter. I'll tell you what, if Arguello had a chance to make twice as much against a fighter besides Pryor who was also undefeated and rated as one of the 10 best fighters in the world, he for damn sure would've taken the fight.

    . . . and I agree . . . the quality of opponents on the way to capturing his 5 divisional Championship . . . surely counts as a big factor . . . . still at top 50 ATG though.

I see what you're saying, but that point is neither here nor there really. I think we've veered off track. Mayweather should definitely have taken the Hatton fight IMO, Hatton was top 10 p4p and the best at 140, it was a natural and desirable fight for PBF at 147. I'm off to bed, it's 2am in the UK. Cheers

Saoul Mamby was the other title-holder at 140 at the time when Arguello fought Pryor.

Between 30-35, so I voted top 30-50 (even though that range is a little too wide for my liking)

I'm pleased I voted between 30 and 50. That's were I've placed him since his retirement, more or less. I love the thought of him viewing this thread and reflecting back on the bold statement he made on 24/7.

If Floyd Mayweather Jr never fights again, i would rank him in the top 25. I don't see him as a top 10 however. In terms of his skills/talent and his in ring acomplishments. Mayweather is as good as there has been. What he is lacking is a win over someone who was precived as being better then he was at the time of their fight. The level of his oponnets is not as bad as some would lead us to belive.

If anything Roy should be way higher than Floyd. Floyd should be somewhere between 50-75.

That list isn't very good to begin with anyway.

I don't think that's a necessity. It's like penalizing a guy for being really good and consistent. Some fighters are underdogs because they struggled in other fights or lost to guys they shouldn't have. Mayweather wouldn't be the underdog against say, Margarito, but it would certainly help his standing if he fought him and won.

Besides, Mayweather was the betting underdog against Hernandez.
