    Right, I'm sure we've all got old copies of The Ring lying around, some will be rarer than others, but all we're looking for is the rankings.

    Let's try and get each division with as close to a monthly chronology as we can, so we can see who the top ten were whenever a fight took place. It may allow us to get a stronger hold on how significant certain wins, losses or performances were, and will keep everything in one thread as a reference.

    First off, who can claim to have the oldest issue?

    Anyone interested, even if there are holes here and there? If it takes off it could even be a sticky for constant reference. Just a thought.

    Just monthly editions. The recent ones, cool, you've got that sorted then.

    I've got a few from the 70s and that's it.

    the year end rankings are the monthly ones from december.

    I juct checked my spreadsheet though and unfortunately I'm missing the following divisions for the year end 1997:lightweight; super featherweight; featherweight; super bantamweight; bantamweight; superflyweight; flyweight; light flyweight and strawweight

    I thought in another thread it said they were not just the ratings for that month.

    I'm confused, can anyone help? :lol:

    I allays thought they were the rankings at the end of that year, so just Decembers rankings.

    Not need to be confused, what was said in other thread was correct (unless this has changed in recent years). The issue I bought in Januray would be dated March and have December's rankings in. Here's an example: I took the kids rounds to my mate's house last week and he had some photos of us camping in Wales in 1992. One one of the pics from the train has a Ring issue in the background (I've just looked online and it's the Chavez vs the Greats one from Sep 1992). Now this trip was July of that year and the rankings in it will date 'June' at the latest.

    By the way, I might help out here in a few months (when loads of this is already done and help fill in some gaps ;)). But a list of Ring rankings does not appeal to me that much to be honest. I'd prefer a database of the WBA/WBA rankings personally and If I ever had the spare capacity I would rather list these (or even BI ones, which I always preferred to Ring's).

    BI used to do top 10 WBA and WBC, late 60's early 70's as I'm sure you know.

    Yep. That's where i have my info from Al. I loved BI's ratings, especially, while the Ring did a Top 10 every month, they'd always have a Top 50.*

    I also liked them more when Sugar took over again in the late 80s and they were better than Ring's rating yet again...the foresight they had to rate Whitaker PFP #1 ahead of Chavez before their meeting always appealed to me in particular. I always knew it was the right decision. :D

    * as i'm sure you know. ;)

    Okay, we'll include all rankings from trusted sources then. :good If they differ as per publication/governing body then it will make it even more interesting, or at least give us better grounding in the context of certain times.

    I have no idea how to easily copy and paste my year end data base onto here.

    I'll give it a go and see how horrible the next post looks.
