The "Ring Title" should count as an "official title."

If Baldomir wanted to fight for the WBA & IBF titles as well as the WBC title he would have paid more in sanctioning fees than he made from the fight.
These sanctioning fees can be ridiculous.

Mosley was number 1 fighting Mayweather number 3 in the Welterweight division at the time.

 

I'm not saying the ABC's are perfect (or even very good), not at all.

But they are far more influential, and important, than the Ring magazine.

The Ring magazine belt can't survive (without major changes) without the other sanctioning bodies. They can survive without the Ring.


The ring has a major flaw in that once they award it, they (by their own rules) have no control over it. Hopkins and his seniors circle jerk at light heavy is the perfect example.

Hopkins - if he beat Calzaghe - could have gone on forever fighting his other old foes, Tarver, Glen Johnson and RJJ - and those guys could have kept passing the belt around until they were in wheelchairs.

If they change those kind of rules, guess what? They're identical to other organisations.

The ring champ is THE champ thats all there is to it. Only fighters who hold that belt are true champions lets be honest about it, and TV networks like Showtime and HBO should encourage it more actively.

 

Vitali was champ, retired and so the title became vacant. Wlad then fought Chagaev the number three contender and was awarded the title due to the situation with his brother, wheres the problem?

As for sanctioning bodies 'organising fights' THEY SHOULDN'T BE! It should be up to fighters and promoters, they get the venue and the relevant boxing commision will then appoint Judges and a referee, what do the sanctioning bodies actually contribute?
