This was in a 1996 issue: http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_100_Greatest_Title_Fights_of_All-Time
Some things that stand out: At #9, Leonard-Hearns 1 is too high. As far as 1980s welterweight title fights go, Duran-Leonard 1 was better (#21) and Brown-Trice 1 was better too (unranked). Saad-Lopez 2 is definitely too low at #84. Nice to see Pettway-Brown get some credit. That was a crazy fight. Ali-Frazier was technically a 14th round stoppage, not a 15th round as listed. I don't rank Dempsey-Firpo nearly as high as this and other lists do. I wish I could find a good copy of the whole Arnold Taylor-Romeo Anaya fight.
Saad-Lopez II is a top 15 lock for my money and Chacon-Limon IV should be top 10. Glad to see Quiroga-Kid Akeeme on the list.
Yeah, it was ancient, but at the time the magnitude of the MW champ knocking out the true HW champ should be in the top 100 fights. Fitz was one fight away from being the GOAT in my opinion, in a fight where he busted up the most dominant HW champ of the era while being a middleweight. He was close to being the first man to ever win back the Heavyweight title only as a MW, and he busted Jeffries up so bad, it was rumored he had loaded gloves.
i guess the ridiculous amount of rounds makes them pace themselves more than good old 12/15 rounders.
Why would any of Liston's title fights get in? 3 of them went less than 1 round, and Ali-Liston 1 wasn't exactly a barn burner either.
