Im admittedly not as knowledgable pre 1940s but I definitely
agree about the 70s and 90s being great eras. I would give
the 80s a solid B though, a lot of talented super heavies and Tysons
skill alone should make it a B. Maybe Ill pick up this issue.

Liston has no place in the 50's.

I can see Ingemar over Patterson, but I think Patterson nits it with the longer rein. People seem to forget Ingo was almost view as a Mike Tyson when he blasted Patterson out like that. It was like wow did you see what he just did?

But I cant see Liston making a top 5. Top ten sure why not. But not top 5, and no way at number 2.

Over all the list of the decades is pretty good, and I agree with the rankings for the most part.

I dont have a as much of a big gripe over Liston making it compare to Jackson not making the 1890's.

The draw with Corbett, top contender for a few years, I personal ranked him 2nd after Corbett.

Jackson from 89 to 92 was quite clearly the best heavyweight on the planet.

He is most definitely not. Lewis's resume in 2000s is comparable to Byrd's and that is not taking into account that Lewis ducked Byrd when he was mandatory.

The two guys he actively fought instead of byrd were tyson and vitali. Both were ranked above byrd when he beat them.

No chance. Cooney would be lucky to make top 10. 8 fights for the decade, losing 2. Only three wins of any note at all was bashings of former names. Trailhorse Young was stopped on cuts, Lyle had been stopped by the forgettable Lynn Ball of all people three fights earlier. Norton had been axed in a single round two years prior by Shavers. Cooney lost to the only two live fighters he fought in the 80's.

The guy had potential for sure, massive hitter. If he held it together post Holmes and dedicated to boxing he may well have made the list. Even guys like Weaver, Coetzee, Page, they all actually beat somebody (and yes, had numerous losses but they did rise at times) at one point and even held a title. Thomas with a good run and wins over Weaver and Witherspoon would be miles ahead of Cooney.

Ring ranking Tyson over Byrd just underscores ring magazine bias. Tyson's done nothing to deserve to be ranked that high at the time.

    I watched that fight live.

    They were both ****in' dreadful.

It reminded me of the Miss Birmingham beauty contest.

    Nobody won.

It was based on his victory over golota.

Tyson was also number 1 contender with every alphabet organisation I believe.

Anyway's tua, grant, rahman, tyson, vitali. That's easily the best top 5 victories in the division.

His only loss he avenged as well.

Wlad's top 5 for the decade is probably byrd, byrd, chag, iggy, peter.

Lewis' top 5 is better, but Lewis only really had those fights. How about all the other fights Wlad had? He was beating top ranked fighters from 00 to the end of 09. Lewis only fought for a third of the decade

Yes, but I don't think Patterson's reign ranks high at all.
Ingemar blasted out Machen in 1 brutal round, a man who Patterson was accused of ducking.
Then he blasts out Patterson himself.

Patterson has an impressive KO over an unimpressive Archie Moore, and his next best would be the two wins over Tommy Jackson, and a win over Roy Harris ... but I'm quite sure destroying Machen and Patterson himself out-ranks that.

If Patterson and Ingo had both retired after their first fight, I don't think anyone would rate Patterson higher.
