Ignore the bs "agenda" suggestions, I can tell a racist when I see one, there are plenty on all sides in this forum, and an objective reader will always easily tell your beliefs are intelligent and held without bias, even where one doesn't always agree with them.

For the record, I put Johnson around 7. Your resume arguments are well founded, I just factor his dominance over an important era in boxing and world history and resultant socio historical contribution higher than you.

The poster McVey by his own admission is a radical type who seems to greet the more accomplished white heavyweight with antipathy ( Jeffries, Marciano whom he said lacks one punch power, and the Klitschko's ), while absolutely loving the controversial African American fighters such as Ali and Johnson, I suspect this is for political reasons while keeping a guy like Joe Louis, outside of his top three.

I'm trying to limit my interaction with him as there isn't much upside. Yes--I can do a better job here, and if you notice he's almost always the one starting the crap no one wants to read by bumping my posts.

I rate Ali and Homes #1 and #2, and both said some racy things. This has been my position for years.

Personally, I think Johnson was a Clockwork Orange type man outside the ring, beating his wife to inches of their death, attacking a sickly 120-pound man and claiming self-defense, using his night club in Chicago to pimp and take advantage of women and among other things. He cared only for himself, and wanted Schemling to deaft Joe Louis in the re-match " To be the only African American Champion " in history.

From 1908-1914, it is very possible Johnson was the best heavyweight on the planet, but it was never proven. That would take a match with Langford, McVey or Jeannette who had greatly improved sicne Johnson beat them many years ago.

 

No way you put Tyson in the top 10, ahead of Liston, Lewis , and Holyfield. Tyson lost to every good fighter he faced. His best win was over a rusty 38 year old Larry Holmes. Might drop Frazier too, his style was just perfect for giving Ali trouble, he'd have a hard time with the guys in the top 10

 

I'd disagree on Liston, but agree on Lewis. Liston would dynamite Mike Tyson inside 4 rounds. His jab would stop Mike from coming forward, and as far as intimidation goes? Mike was play acting as a thug, Sonny Liston was the real thing. Frazier couldn't have handled Sonny either, Lewis on the other hand would have beaten Sonny, probably by TKO.

If each of these fighters fought the other 19 what fighter would have the best record and who would have the worst? It's so hard to rate Corbett, Jefferies , Sullivan ,Fitzsimmons on such scant evidence so I'd have them towards the bottom. I think Lewis might surprise people with who he could beat, Marciano I believe would suffer some devastating defeats. Ali probably would amass the most wins but with styles making fights he'd lose his share. I recall Ray Arcel once saying a prime Dempsey would have given Cassius Clay a fit, his opinion is good enough for me.

Leaving the vote aside, the magazine also feared Vitali Klitschko and the best he has faced. Vitali says Corrie Sanders, not Lennox Lewis hit him the hardest but gives Lewis props in other areas, including calling him the best he faced.
