Good question. Here's the answer:

1) He hasn't faced top competition or taken on challenges outside of his comfort zone (hometown crowd and weight division).
2) He isn't Floyd Mayweather.

Now, it seems that all of you non-Americans have some stupid chip on your shoulder. I don't get why. I don't look down on other countries, cultures, or their fighters, but I do resent when people imply it's a matter of national pride.

I love a lot of fighters, athletes, and people who aren't from my home country...However, Calzaghe is YOUR IDOL, YOUR HERO, etc. To me, he is a great fighter, who hasn't fought enough top level competition or taken on enough challenges to claim the throne of the BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD. Maybe he is the best fighter in the world, but he has NOT PROVEN IT YET!

 

Well, that's his problem, and his fans' problem...Nobody kept him in obscurity fighting no-name fighters...

People point to Eubank as a big fight, and it was, but it was also 10 years ago. The Reid fight was 8 years ago. From 1999 until the Lacy fight, he was fighting mostly non-threats and dare I say, bums...

I am sure that some people may have avoided fighting JC. But somehow a lot of other big name DANGEROUS fighters have found opponents to fight them. Even Mike Tyson could find opponents in his prime, and he was a lot more feared than JC. The point is, JC didn't have the desire to seek out these huge fights and gain worldwide recognition, and that's fine.

But now, that's his problem.

the hometown crowd thing is ridicuous and incorrect, hes fought in Germany against a German and in England against the English!

And even if joe does travel to the Us to fight hop or Taylor or Pavlik or whoever, you can guarentee joe will have more fans in the arena!

 

I will say the Kessler win is good and will give him the benefit of the doubt for two more. The rest were just 41 ways of drinking tomato soup.

I enjoyed it more the second time around. There is no doubt in my mind (and there never was) that Joe is one of the very best fighters P4P, right up there with Floyd. Hopkins can talk all the trash he wants about giving Joe a facelift, but really he should be grateful that Joe offered him a free boxing lesson.

All communication between people of the same so-called "subculture" is rendered useless by conflicting personalities of those who gain more satisfaction from the offer of fame and money that from creating a level of interaction and thought within their own kind. Those with more ability become inherent leaders and are then subject to exploitation for personal gain other than short-lived false heroic status by the media whose job it is to create idols to sell their product to the gullible public. Heroes create money. The rest of the subculture stick to their media-created restrictions and see their new hero as a part of them. The fact that he has been made into a hero defines his 'followers' complete lack of originality. People need heroes to back up their own half-formed ideas. All original thoughts are regurgitated a thousand times in attempts at self-realization which must consequently fail as the person has merely become an advertisement for someone else's ideas and his own sheep-like mentality. The subcultures decay in solitude and false ideas of unity that only lead to self-destructive tribalism. The media help to create this tribalistic paranoia and reinforce it with exaggerated fears and false heroes. It’s a downhill rush into apathetic self-obliteration. Be Yourself - cos there’s always someone who wants you to be someone else. THINK.

 

This is the way I see it:

Clazaghe fans assume Joe is at a certain level. Kessler gives Calzaghe a close fight so must be pretty good himself. Calzaghe beat Kessler who is pretty good therefore Calzaghe must be great. Circular reasoning.

 

Kessler is an A class fighter you have to have your head up your ass not to realise that.

 

Kessler is ****ing awesome.

 

of course its circular reasoning. in then end if you don't use circular reasoning then NOONE can be great. If to be great you have to beat someone great who has to beat someone great and etc, where the hell did the first great fighter come from?

 

But this is a very small circle!

 

Didn't Joe himself say Kessler can only fight in straight lines.

 

He said all sorts of stuff when he was avoiding Kessler and going for a fight with Taylor. Now he's beat Kessler everyone makes out Kessler is some kind of god.
