Stands to reason that he should, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to find Pernell giving it to him. Looking at his fights around 85,86, he still looked formidable, as he did in the Olympics, even.

Well looking thru that KO before it was talked about how fast he was expected to progress, and indeed implemented.

We know the fledgling Whitaker certainly got the better of Camacho the one time we have confirmation of, so i could not agree more.

I know it's not the December 85 issue. only thing mentioned are possible future opponents and breakup with his manager.could be the month before, the one i mentioned but I dont know for sure. I'll probably repurchase it unless someone beats me to it.

The area I think it appeared was towards the last few pages such as Ringside news and views that contains the gossip for the month, sotries bunched together in one section.

No it was not Hector himself but the person reporting the events. But I cant remember if the reporter witnessed it himself or is using eyewitness reports.

I ain't heard about this sparring sessions between the two, but prime for prime in the ring my money would be on sweet pea everytime. He would have to much skill in the ring for Hector to handle, infact JCC in his prime would have a prime Camacho. I'm not saying I never did rate Camacho because he was a quality boxer, I rate them two above him.

it seems to me that most people here dont know that Hector had a career before 1990 lasting a full ten years without a loss. This would be like someone judging Leonard's entire career off his last two fights.

You know it is strange questioning the superiority of one of boxing strongest champions at the time and comparing him to someone out of the amateurs. Even worse is comparing him to someone like Haugen

What would you say was his greatest win in those 10 previous years?

Well it's not so strange when you consider that amateur went down as one of the greatest of all time. It's also not weird when you consider that Camacho had only ever clearly beaten one quality fighter by the time 1985 was through. Wasn't as if he would have been at that much of an advantage over Whitaker, especially considering it was probably a 3 or 4 round spar.

I only know what I read in the article. Perhaps Hector was trying to keep him in line and not to get too fresh with THE world champion. Hard to see anyone with Hector's speed getting schooled especially after what he did to Ramirez.

On the other hand I myself watched Hagler get creamed in sparring sessions by people probably never turned pro. But by then what sort of skill did he have left?

Well i wouldn't say i've been waiting. After all, everyone knows that Hector doesn't have one great win, not ever.

No real suspense bucko. A foregone conclusion.
