I guess Boxing was more exciting when Ruiz,Byrd,Rahman,and Brewster(who DID LOSE HIS BELT TO MEEHAN) held the titles.

Name exciting fights that Euro's have been in but you have to exclude Jirov,Adamek,Golota,Kostya,and The Klits because they have been in exciting fights but it doesnt help my argument!

So what I'm reading in this thread is basically 'if a European fighter has been in a great match it's because they fight like Americans'. So were Winky and B-Hop fighting like Europeans when they fought? The fact is there is exciting and boring fighters from every country and only those with a 'my country is better than yours' attitude can't see that.

 

Better to win a belt in a boring fight then walk with nothing after a slugfest.

 

bumdujour is a troll so i already know what i was getting into when i clicked on this thread.

They want to exclude every name Euro fighter that has been in an exciting fight and expect you to come up with some no names.And when the fight is exciting it's because of the other guy.

 

I was saying we are no better off with this current crop of champs as we were a few years ago with the boring American bums.

 

I think the Heavyweights have been improving, and they should continue to do so. From where the division was just a few years ago, it's already better. The problem is that as the "unknowns" take the place of names that US fans are familiar with, it creates the perception of weakness.

My thing is though, where would the division be without all those fighters? They're all beltholders for a reason- they beat the champions. Had they not turned pro, we'd have less talent in the HW's, but would probably still remain under the illusion that the division was fine because the champs would be people the US was more comfortable and familiar with.

But following that logic, somehow having more fighters= weaker competition. I don't agree with it. Maybe it's just because America doesn't have a horse in the race right now, and it's a form of sour grapes. It's also a good reason why you see posts talking about how fringe beltholders/contenders from the 90's would dominate today.

 

No what im saying is if i were fighter i would rather win easy and ugly than lose and take a beating.
