Dont worry, these Euro champs will never be put in such high regard as great American champs like Ali, Tyson, and Louis, the Euro champs fight nobodys and expect to be considered great, guys like Wlad will be forgotten about in another 20 to 30 years, do you see fighters like Tyson or Ali even being forgotten about in the next 100 years?

Great Boxers Alot Of The Time Come From People Who Live Through Tough Times And Or Hardships. Immigrants Etc.. Eastern Europe Is Rough. Money Is Tight. Times Have Been And Are Tough. Poor People Are Not Fat Like In America. Standing In Line For Bread Is Tough. Not A Paycheck Of Support In The Mail.

it has been now nearly 18 years since an american heavy beat a european, since then eastern block fighters have been turning pro.

and they have been unsuccessfull, no question. but unsuccess is not always a good thing. think of mcdonalds: they are as successfull as you can be,as every american heavyweight knows only to well but have they contributed positively to the health/eating habits of the worlds population???

so they have been so unsuccessfull that some people even claim that they are an irrelevence to the sport.

but what has been their contribution to boxing outside of losing and eating mcdonalds.

when you think of boxing, what is the thing that first comes to mind??? what is boxings lifeblood??? what memory of boxing puts a smile on your face???

for me, its simple: its the memory of big european fight nights. great fights. great fight series etc.

first it were just the US fighters that provided the action. ruiz-oquendo. tony tubbs v greg page
then the latins entered and did their share (and a bit more). in the eightees and ninetees brits and latin americans set the bar.

now think of the recent years during which the eastern euro fighters have been around.........think of the great fights. how big a part did they take in providing memorable fights???

the eastern euro flagship fighters for years have been the klitschkos.

vitaly provided ten exciting fights and he retired when he found out there were no american heavies worthy of his attention.

wlad either knocks his opponent stiff or outboxes them..

maskaev, chagaev, valuev and ibragimov./dimetrenko/boystov/virchis/.........the list is endlesss, but there is always james toney, last seen doing a mcdonalds type pub crawl in cleveland.

    karmazin makes pretty good fights.

    sergej dzinziruk is damm good.

memorable fights involving an eastern euro include 20 of dairus michaelzwekis worth anybodys money going out and purchasing a darious tuitle fight collection dvd.

    involved in war after war.

the style that eastern euros usually and very successfully employ can be summed up as following: hands up, chin down. both gloves tightly infront of their face, elbows in while employing a rather square stance. kinda like a turtle that has all of its limbs tucked in leaving no exposed area to attack.

they move into range of their opponent, looking for him to start his attack with lead punches that they can block........only to counter with quick straight and very accurate punches.
this they do round after round.

very effective, no question. hard to beat.

but does this make for memerable fights?? yep

i recently watched fights like hopkins v taylor 1 and 2 and smoke gainers entire career collection /raheems greatest ko dvd , a good 2 secs well spent/
paul malinaggi v ngogdju/ and then i saved spinks for last, a great 8 hours action packed edge of the seat thrill a minute that was.

only needed 3 speed pills and 5 pints of coffee and the time flew bye.

not exactly barnburners, but very gracefull displays of boxing. the art of slipping punches and then not countering. pulling someone in and "suckering him up".nefore pulling back out again without hitting the opponent.
alternating between long range posing and clinching on the inside.

    even a non-slugfest contains beauty.

and the eastern euro style provides that.

yes, as i said several times, it is effective and successfull. and it may take over the sport.

so if the eastern euro fighters are taking over (and with them, the eastern euro style of boxing)...........what are the chances of american boxing fans getting to enjoy fights like abraham v ikkeke when american tv seems not to know where europe is.

will the success of the eastern euro style in the end be a bad thing for boxing??? i mean after all you are posting on east side boxing set up for east european boxing and surely this was ther sloe contributing factor to posters like bumdajour joining to glory and bath in the glory of east european boxing

this has been a pisstake on behalf of seanlikeseuropean boxing party.
