I don't mean their best opponents but what fights did they take that were the most risky (whether is be low reward, difficult opponent etc.).

For (a recent) example, Hopkins was a really risky fight for Pavlik because he offered little reward (coming off a loss and perceived as being past-it) and he has a difficult style.

    Other notable examples of recent?

De la hoya/Pacquiao. I guess for both. De la hoya is too big for him. And if pacman beats him, quite an embarrassment to be beaten by a smaller guy.

Definitely. Contary to most reports, for BOTH guys. AS you can see from the first few rounds, Margarito looked in danger of being totally outclassed. But Cotto ran the risk of being caught up with and getting pummelled.

I actually think the most risky recent fight was Amir Khan vs. Breidis Prescott. I know I can't do a double backflip and I don't practise all day....what made Amir Khan think he can take a punch? I don't get it, even with 16 oz sparring gloves he must've been hit on the chin.

Wonder how long he lasts sparring with Pacman? I bet Roach has to tell Manny to go easy :)

Byrd taking on George for his first fight at LHW was an incredibly stupid business move. He probably lost millions because of this one decision. If he had taken an easy tune up fight and looked OK doing it, he still would've fooled the public and he might've gotten a big fight with RJJ or another big name LHW.

I don't think this one fits the descirption.

Imagine you are a fighter and your promoter gives you this proposition.

"You can fight a megastar for the biggest payday of your career. You will probably lose but nobody will care because you are expected to and in the off chance that you win, you will be a superstar".

I'd say anyone that fights Corey spinks fits the description. You just can't win with that guy. Even if you win you will look horrible doing it and the chance that he will scratch and fondle you while running away and get a decision is very real. And since he is a **** draw there is not much money to be made and if that wasn't bad enough King always gets him the bigger payday.

Margarito taking on Williams was a bad financial move in retrospect. I think Arum all but had a fight with DLH lined up as long as he got past Williams. He didn't. Marg probably lost millions in the process.

Oh, one of the dumbest moves ever made by a fighter was when Mosley opted to fight an unknown Winky Wright instead of going for the triology with DLH.
