Another good day of training done.

Standing in the shower, thinking to myself how nice it would be to have a GF around only cause I need someone to scrub my back since my arms are too stiff to reach.

Head movement and slips are getting good along with rest of my defense.

Played around too much in the last round, defense started slacking. I got caught with a good knockout shout to the upper part of my teeth that stunned me when I came in, got caught by a right hand counter.

I don't have a GF, so I got the next best things:
    1 - a loofah with a freakin' handle
    2 - a back scratcher

I lost my ability to scratch my back not long after I began boxing - by far the best purchase i've ever made.

:rofl:good That's awesome. Not quite at that point yet, we stress flexibility along with the rest of our training so we can stay limber.

I was outside shadowboxing in the snow, neighbor just makes a bee-line over to me and says 'You've been out here shadowboxing for about 15-20 mins, I just want to make sure your ok. That everything's alright. '
(Guy has a Sheriff's vehicle w/K-9 printed on his vehicle in the driveway)
I just kinda blink confused, as if I gotta be upset or angry to be doing it. Then I explain to him I'm preparing for a regional tournament. He starts to laugh and goes 'Ahhh, you gotta be in pretty good condition for that. ' And I respond with, 'Well yea.. that's why I'm out here training right now. '

Yeah, that's good. Cuz if I ever got into a fight with an mma fighter, i'd tap out long before he even thinks about applying a kimura.

You sound like you got some heavy feet too. :p

Just watched our team fight tonight, they couldn't get me on the card which kinda bummed me out but they cancelled the last two fights cause one of our boxers sent someone to the hospital tonight, took a long time to get a stretcher in. It sucks to see someone get injured in this sport but then there's that warrior part of you too and we all understand the serious risk we take which is why this is nothing to play with.

Dude would dance around the ring, hands down, trying to be flashy. Then he'd just try to throw a haymaker right straight every time as a lead, sometimes being the ONLY punch he threw. Our fighter would just slip it or block it, then counter and follow up. Eventually dude dipped and got caught with a hook to the head, hurt his neck. He left in a stretcher. :bbb

Something to learn from all the examples tonight.

Trying to understand this feeling I'm having today after training..

I've been training so rigorously and focused that my body just feels ready to fight all the time. It is itching for a fight and needs one. My coach called me tonight to let me know he's trying to get me on the card for next Thursday. It's about time.

    Starting to develop signature punches.
Need to practice delivering it more in live scenarios but my accuracy was pinpoint.

Training the over aggressive rookies needs to be done more with care. I got caught with two wild punches today during body-focused drills, one being a counter right hand to my jaw that came unexpectedly and is still aching since I had no mouth guard in. The second one being a bare handed left hook to the head when she wasn't suppose to make contact and it slipped my guard.

When I get home from training/sparring, I make sure to take things lightly to not only rest myself physically but mentally. Music is good for cleansing the brain, something not too intense but just makes your head bob a little bit. I wonder if most boxers have an appreciation for music since it is like dancing some of the time.

Did some sparring today, getting pushed to work harder and harder.
Literally jumping rope and went from doing alright for a while, then got really tired and winded, then had to bite down and just keep pushing.

Gotta pick up tempo and work on going to the body.

Learned a lot from tonight's bout.
Potential concussion so I'll need some time to review and rest before writing more on it.

Also.. I don't remember getting punched in the neck or the side of my throat but it ****ing sucks getting punched there.

Still around, still training. Definitely feeling sharper but I want to get sharp as a stick like I was after training camp.

Have had a lot going on - SIUC officially recognized the boxing club that I've been the Vice Pres of so we are hoping to become affiliated with the NCBA before the next school year. I take over as president next year so that means less free time as I have to run the club/competition team and train myself as well as others.

Other public events coming up, plan to do a demo for the Veterans Affairs with the one guy I've trained with this whole time. Swamped with school work as the finals for the semester is upon me.

I can't believe how much time has gone by and how much I've changed since the beginning of this journey.. I've met the best people in my life through boxing and have had the most fulfilling moment from it as well.

It feels great to have a skill which I can offer back to the community as well. Tomorrow, I've been invited to present a boxing demo for the local VA at a big walk event that will be happening. I'm not entirely sure what the point of this is, I wouldn't see it exactly as a recruiting opportunity for finding new fighters to add to the stable but even if it is just to entertain the veterans, I find that to be satisfying reason enough to do it.

Went into this with only one hour of sleep, I am so not a day person.

Anyways, things changed on the fly like it always does. Instead, we were suppose to be teaching the basics of boxing to anyone interested and promoting the health aspects of boxing for the Veterans as far as combating Parkinson's by keeping the neuro-muscular pathways in use.

    Here's the photo album
