Amazing fighter 45-1 and avenged his lone loss and 3 draws. A pleasure to watch..so manny subtle little things he does. Not mentioned enough here. Any thoughts or opinions
I commend him for fighting on the road but overall very weak competition. Tony Lopez by far his biggest win. Irving Mitchell: faded and never really a top 10 guy to begin with Jackie Beard: faded and barely top 10 even at his best Alfredo Layne: oft beaten but had caught a shot Wilfredo Gomez at just the right time Jose Rivera: 11-3-1 when Mitchell defended against him. Scored a Draw. Probably a bad decision but I have never seen the fight. Mitchell won the rematch by dec. Salvadore Curcetti and Daniel Londas. Weak. Regional - European Level at best. Francisco Fernandez. Weak. Regional - Latin American level at best. Danilo Cabrera - Gave McGuigan a tough fight in '85, but by the time he lasted the distance with Mitchell in '88, he had been stopped by Azumah Nelson, lost a decison to the no name Jose Jiminez in '87 and suffered a beating (although he lasted the distance) against JC Chavez later in '87. Jim McDonnell - undefeated but had beaten nobody of note before facing Mitchell. Salvador Bottigeliri - Weak -.Regional - European level at best Frankie Mitchell - fringe top 10. Probably Brian Mitchell's second best opponent other than Tony Lopez. Felipe Orozco. Faded former top 10 fighter. Had been stopped by Jaime Garza and Barry McGuigan in '84, decisoned by Rocky Lockridge in '86 and by a young Genaro Hernandez in '87. Still, held Mitchell to a Split Decision in South Africa. Didn't face any of the top 130 pounders of his day other than Tony Lopez, and Lopez had been through a series of tough fights against Rocky Lockridge (two fights), who was a bit past prime and John John Molina (three fights), before facing Mitchell.
