Clearly the early grazing to the neck caused by clevs tape affected him. An ungrazed Karpency would've taken that.
That was ****ing terrible..embarrassing... The worst thing about it was that Karpency was twice as good as I thought he would be.
BBC Report on the fight: Tommy Karpency suffers shock title defeat to Welsh novice Wales' Nathan Cleverly retained his WBO light-heavyweight title against difficult American opponent Tommy Karpency in Cardiff. Cleverly recovered from a heavy first round knockdown to take Karpency the distance but the judges' decision was predictably unanimous in favour of the home fighter. The experienced Karpency, who has had an entire fight more than his opponent, was unable to capitalise on a dream start and inexcusably allowed the young Nathan Cleverly back into the fight. However the Welshman, Britain's only world champion, acknowledged the American's power in his post fight interview. "Out of every fighter I've fought, he's punched the hardest so far. And I've fought some big punchers." Karpency, 26, from Adah, Pennsylvania, started the stronger of the two by flooring the belt holder in the opening few seconds of the fight. Karpency slipped the jab to land a huge left hand which belted Cleverly to the canvas, only for the referee to bizarrely rule it a slip. Karpency controlled the opening rounds but appeared to have underestimated his opponent several rounds later as he tired mid-way through the fight. Karpency regained command of the contest late on with Ali-like, rope-a-dope tactics but they failed to impress the judges who all scored the bout 120-108 in favour of the world number one. Nathan Cleverly spoke of future fights against the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Tavoris Cloud, Gabriel Campillo and Beibut Shumenov after the fight but all have already reportedly turned down career-high purses from promoter Frank ******. http://boxrec.com/ratings.php?sex=M&division=Light+Heavyweight&pageID=4 The K-Man has re-entered the prestigious BoxRec world rankings at number 82. One place behind Sunderland's Tony Jeffries. Bit surprised to be honest. He's just gone 12 rounds with the world champion, deserves a higher rating IMO.
I've heard rumours he was drugged, thats why he gassed so quickly. What a warrior for lasting the distance
Hope kid uses money he earned from his sparring session with Clev to get a dvd player or even a VHS. 'I didn't know Cleverly output would be that much'. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrM3JcmzUGg[/ame]
I heard every single bone in both hands had been crushed the week before the fight but he didn't want to pull out as he's no chump.
