It's hard to give a loss to a fighter who is throwing twice as many punches and therefore landing more, but in all 3 of those fights Hopkins landed cleaner, harder shots in the majority of the rounds, and clean/effective punching is the biggest criteria for my scoring of fights. Apart from that, Defense is a part of boxing, and unlike most I expect, If one man throws 8 punches but the other makes him miss them all, I think the fighter that made him miss got the better. No one did damage, and one man showed superior skill, therefore he won that moment. Hopkins did that on several occasions against both.

As it is, whether they were less effective or not, Calzaghe threw more and landed more, so he rightly got the very close decision.

This is decidely untrue. The Bernard Hopkins that Roy fought was still a brawler, who hadn't refined his style to the degree it would be refined a few fights down the road. While he had learned good fundamentals, he had not yet developed the 'killer arithmetician' style that would be on display as he discovered himself a technician. When Roy beat Hopkins, he wasn't "BERNARD HOPKINS" yet, he was just a tough brawler.

Ridiculous is in the eye of the beholder.

You have a demonstrated tendancy to denigrate and belittle points of view with which you disagree.

And, as we have discussed at length before, you have, at a minimum, a perceived bias when it comes to Calzaghe.

The only ridiculous score I saw was Judge Byrd's (6-6)

Judge Giampa scored it 9-3 and Judge Gimza scored it 8-4, one round different.

Both respected American judges in front of an American crowd.

Neither one had any axe to grind here.

Many of the rounds were close, but the edge went to Calzaghe for most of the fight.

I can't find any rounds to give to Bernard after the fourth.

Originally while watching it, I gave Bernard the first and third and nothing else.

Upon rewatching it, I could give him one and three, and either or both of two and four, depending on generosity.

    After that, none.

He was lucky to make it to the end.

If it had been 15, he would almost certainly have been stopped.

Sue's second is a diehard Bernard fan and a very respected poster (with whom I have had a number of good battles) and he agreed that Calzaghe won the fight. I have seen many others Bernard fans admit the same thing.

Not all would agree on the scores, but there is little doubt who the victor was, and 9-3 is less ridiculous than having Bernard win, IMO.

Even Now, Bernard Hopkins is much better than the one that fought Roy. Bernard was very green back then, and looked awful against mercado a fight later. And yes, a good argument can be made that B-Hop lost only once, when he wasn't close to being the legendary fighter that he became.

I thought Jones beat him clearly but I had both Taylor fights even and thought he beat Calzaghe. It does seem harsh that he lost all three.

9-3 is as biased as 6-6 or even less. I had it 8-4.

one of the judges had it 9-3. one 8-4 and one 6-6

    What?

Taylor won twice, Calzaghe won. Whether you like it or not that's the facts.
And don't forget Clint Mitchell. :yep

8-4 and hopkins was hurt but yeah he beat him...i think calazghe beat him about equally...just because BHOP says he won and one crackhead judge does not mean calzaghe didnt win fairly easy....I think JT beat him both times...not sure how? but he did. and he lost his first pro fight clean...the thing about bhop is when he wins...he ****IN wins!!!! he EXECUTES people...tito-executed...pavlik-executed... tarver-executed...winky...not so much but he did beat him...oscar -executed

it was a decent fight by bhop...and I am not a calzaghe nuthugger by any means..but I swear i thought bhop MAYBE won 3 rds not more than 4...he just did enough to lose each rd...clean shots are good when it is more than 2 a rd when slaps is hitting him with 20 slaps a round...calzaghe won fairly clean in my eyes

i agree with the scoring but he would not stop bhop if it went 100 rds...actually bhop would win because he only threw 2 punches a rd after the 4th so he would save them up for the last 50 rds....calzaghe won easy...no question
