Seems as if roy sprinted, but hopkins prepared for the marathon. ultimately the winner or will be when its all said an done. all the great things roy did will be overshadowed by what hopkins did, and will do in my opinion. and i was a big roy fan!

i hear ya, but i think if roy retired after his heavy weight win, i think hopkins still surpasses him with what he did and will do. jones never really did much to go in history, hopkins did, jones won a ton of belts and defeated alot but so hav everyone else. but hopkins stands alone in history. no to mention hopkins resume is better.

I feel bad for Roy. In his prime he was one of the most dynamic fighters EVER. Dude was one of a kind. These beatings that he is taking are going to leave him punch drunk for sure.

I totally disagree with that. Roy continued on well past his prime, but he didnt erase what he already did. He gained nothing by fighting on, but he lost nothing also, at least as far as his legacy. What he lost physically and mentally is on him personally. If he retired after Ruiz that would only feed into our own disillusions that hes super-human, which he is not and never was. No man is. What he is, is a all time great fighter.

Very Ignorant comment, Not just anyone can win titles at MW, SMW, LHW and than HW, in fact I don't think anyone else will for a very long time. Had Roy retired after the first Tarver fight, he would be ranked much Higher than Hopkins as he had already beat him H2H.

Put it this way. Roy was a better sprinter, got further in the short term. But Bernard is the better long distance runner, and did more things the longer the race went. Roy's race was over years ago though. Roy - better sprinter - 100 and 200. Bernard - better at the 400 or 1000.

It did hurt a lot though, I have heard people say that they had jones in their alltime top 10 when he beat tarver yet nowadays he seems to be top 25 or top 20 max, it seems he definitely dropped places on peoples list so it seems that it did hurt his legacy.

I've placed hopkins over Roy for a while anyway. I think if they would have met after Hops beat Tito he would have beat him at that point. Hops wasn't half the fighter he went on to become when they first met. While its very arguable Jones was very close to his prime... Hops had the style in his prime to always give any style of fighter hell. And that goes for any generation. His longevity is amazing and the wins hes piled up since leaving middleweight is crazy... Hops is the living legend.. Long live the King.

'Would have been better to see Hopkins-Jones II anywhere from 1997 to 2001. Hopkins would have exposed that Jones chin long before Tarver did.

I think you are right. IMO, all Hopkins needs is one more win over a Dawson or Bute and it's not at all debatable. Personally, I would rate him above Jones right now, but I could understand how someone would differ. Right now, it's real close.

With no Ko power and yet he couldn't Ko this version of Jones :think

Hopkins hasn't done anything Jones hadn't already done .What has Hopkins really done better than Jones other than stay in the game longer ?

Bernard has surpassed Roy. It's not because Roy is doing bad now because that's unfair to Roy, he's way past his prime, the reason is because Bernard is doing so well even though he's past his prime. prime for prime i would always pick roy to beat bernard. it's a style thing.

The race was already over by the time Jones finally got back in with Hopkins. 'Nard didn't sweat him.. he felt sorry for him by then.

Hopkins has the record for middleweight title defenses and he just became the oldest ever world champion. That stacks up with anybody, anywhere, anytime.

There were two boxers that I said Jones was running from back in 2001- Hopkins and Tarver.
