In 1961 Jofre inherets the title from Jose Becerra, no slouch himself, then loses it to Fighting Harada in 1965. Lionel Rose gets him in 1968 before Ruben Olivares gets it for his first stint in 1970. He loses it to Chucho Castillo, my favourite bantam I think, and a borderline top ten type himself.

    But these four,

    Jofre
    Harada
    Rose
    Olivares

Has there ever been a hand-to-hand of any boxing championship that passed between four fighters of anything approaching this quality? Or is this the royalest of royal boxing bloodlines?

And is it fair to name Rose the weak link here or is that unfair?

    Edit: inherits, not "takes from"

Jofre beat Eloy Sanchez, dude. Who had beaten Becerra, as I remember. Not to be a pedantic *******. You're right calling it a royal bloodline though, it was an incredible line of succession. Not harsh to call Rose the weak link either, it's no bad reflection on him that the other three were greater. Weak link might be a stern term considering what an amazing talent he was and how he put Harada in the dock but it's the loftiest of company all things said.

I can't think of a stronger line of succession off the top of my nut. Not to say there ain't one.....
