I rewatched Bute's fight against Bika and Joe's fight against the same yesterday...and I just had to start this thread sooner or later. Bika is good! Just remember the problems he caused Joe when they went toe-to-toe - bet he regretted taking him lightly. He was so angry after the fight that in his interview he said: "No, this wasn't a hard fight at all!" (Or words to that effect! ) And have a look at Bika in the first half of the Bute fight - he wins the first 5 rounds and draws the 6th! http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Bute+Bika/video/x2fbb9_lucian-bute-vs-sakio-bika-14_sport http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/Bute+Bika/video/x2fbci_lucian-bute-vs-sakio-bika-24_sport Sure, he is dirty sometimes; sure, it's not pretty - but, hell, does he go full out for it! A Bika fight is NEVER boring! And by far his biggest asset, except for his strength and athleticism: he is good at making you fight according to HIS gameplan. Bika is definitely Top 10 at SMW. He is the best fighter on the Contender. Winning it should raise his profile. I see Bika as a gate-keeper to those who want to make it into the Top 6. Good luck, Sakio! :good
I will give him appreciation, despite me having the feeling you made this thread from my comments in the other one. He definately deserves appreciation! But that doesn't mean he should be rated higher than where he should be. 11-20, imo, suits him better, especially since he has lost his last 2 meaningful fights by decent margins.
I have read your comment after I posted this thread...and I thought to myself - how appropriate! Decent margins? He lost against Bute by 3, including the point off for the headbut, and at most by 4-5 against Calzaghe, in my view. And yes, he was at his best against Bute. But just because you get beaten by the 1st and 3rd fighter in the division, it doesn't mean you're no good. It means you fight the best out there! Let's hear it for Bika!
Watch the first 6 rounds in the link I provided. He drew the 6th and won the first 5. But you are right; Bute outclassed Bika and would have TKOed him if he had had another round.
I think Bika won 3-4 of the first 6 rounds and then it was all Bute. I had the fight 116-111 for Bute. Teddy Atlas had it 117-110 for Bute.
Both you and Amsterdam are much better judges than me, of course...so I will defer to your views. Maybe I am overly critical of Joe and Lucian, because I am a fan...but 117-110 for Bute? No way!
I had it 115-112, but 116-111 is basically the same thing here, considering one of the rounds I gave Bika could have been an even, or even for Bute under certain subjectiveness.
The first 3 rounds were all Bute. Both guys have good hand speed so it's hard to see what shots connect, but I watched the rounds in slow mo (1/4 speed) and Bute landed FAR FAR more shots.
All in all though, even if we accept that Sakio Bika was soundly beaten by both Joe and Lucian, he DID cause them a lot of problems and he would do the same to anyone in the division; no matter how good. He is quite outstanding in that respect.
Bika has showed he has boxing skills - especially in his match vs Bute. However he still need to progress further - hone and refine his skillset. As it is he is Top 10 - but he needs to start winning versus another top 10 fighter.
:good That is actually why I have written several times that a robbery in the Calzaghe-Kessler fight is very likely.
