He was hardly comparing Foreman to Peter, just the rabbit punches. Everyone did them, Ali did them, Foreman did them, Lewis and MANY fighters. Don't really think those punches are on purpose, I mean it's a fight in there, if you don't hit your opponent you will get hit instead so you take advantage of whatever opportunity you have. Most of the punches behind the head are hardly on purpose as well, some of his opponents just move their heads low enough to welcome that as Peter looks to land a hook and it just nails them there. Wladimir turned his back on Peter many times, so did Maskaev so it's only logical that punch will go there and Peter tends to swing wildly at times.
Great post scar, you summed up what I was trying to say. Peter is no different than so many others that came before him, I used Foreman because at times he was just as raw as Peter with his punches. I'm sure you remember many of his oppenents turning there back, holding excessively, doing whatever they can to avoid his extremely heavy punches, so at times he did catch his oppenents behind the head with some heavy shots, the same could be said for Peter against guys like Maskaev, Toney, and Wlad.
Wladimir did it on PURPOSE, everytime Peter would get the positioning Wladimir turns his back on him in hope to get the referee to break. Even when they exchange Wladimir would lean with his head down and welcome the punch there. Same thing happened with Toney and Maskaev.
Exactly, Wlad was probably the worst out of the 3 of them, 97 clinches, turned his back many times to avoid punches, he clearly didnt want to be there and it showed. Toney being the smart fighter is did everything he could to make Peter get frustrated and throw wild punches, forcing him to implode in a sense, which worked to a degree(ear muff punch), but in the end Peter did enough to win. Maskaev had to be practically forced into the ring that night, and when he was in there he looked for out he can, constantly complaining about rabbit punches, while he had his head down at Peters shoulder most of the fight, Emanuel even called him on it.
Maskahev, I believe, might beat him if they fight again. Peter is ordinary, just ask McCline... I would like to see him fight Ruiz though. I think Ruiz would KO him about the 10th. Strange I know..
Exactly, that's what I said too, you lean with your head down all the time you will get nailed there whether intentionally or accidentally. Toney did it a lot on purpose, everytime he would be in trouble he will lean with his head down to get nailed there and get a break from the referee, just watch the first round of the rematch as a PERFECT example, Toney gets rocked, leans with his head down and gets saved by the referee.
No one is saying Peter is super special but calling him ordinary because of the McClne fight is weird. An ordinary fighter wouldn't have come back from 3 vicious knockdowns to win the fight.
I don't know, Oleg looked pretty shot in their fight. At this point I think he's just looking for a couple of easy paydays to pad his retirement.
Yeah, Toney is a tough guy and even before the fight I knew it would take a cannon of a shot to put Toney to sleep, the Williams punch would of did the trick. Back in old days noone wouldve said **** about Peter's punches, but now eveyone wants to cry foul. Peter is no worse than Ali or Foreman, every great or good fighter has at least one dirty trick in there arsenal, and I really dont think Peter's is intentional
