i know theres various guys on here , trainers boxers conditioners etc , What is the right way to do the weight as im sick hearing this excuse of fighters after a defeat or a poor performance , the old i struggled to make the weight or i didnt do my weight right etc etc. im always of the opinion they should be dropping average of 2lb a week through there camp with there level of training to maintain strength, Most good pros are training 2 to 3 sessions a day so id imagine a proper strict diet is key with good carbs from veggys and meal replacement shakes for higher protein intake ive disagreed with Billy before about holding weight for sparring etc , i dont claim to be an expert but i did my brothers weight with him who went back to fighting on the white collar circut 10 years after quitting the armature game , We got him down to 2lb over the weight the week before the fight and tapered it down from there as we thought it was best to let him see how he felt at the weight in terms of strength and energy etc which seemed to work well i know theres supposed check weights during camps but ive also heard theese can be bluffed and skipped etc , Surely with guys getting hurt like paul appelby the lad crolla fought kieran farrell and more recently the boy on dave caldwells show ****** wilson i think his name was , This leaving it to the last minute and dehydrating needs to stop for safety reasons aswell as boxers using it as an excuse for defeats or a **** poor performance .......
Exactly this, if you are a professional boxer you shouldnt be deviating too much from your fighting weight and having a good diet and the correct amount of training. It's not even difficult there's so much science behind alot of this now which IMO is unecessary. The ones trying to cut loads of weight in short spaces of time are basically stupid and being given bad advice, drying out your body is not natural or healthy just so you can gain a bit of a weight advantage on fight night. The whole weight cutting thing for me is ridiculous anyway, yeah a few pounds here and there but not what some of them do, and the reason most need to do it is cos they have poor nutrition (not professional)
For longevity of a career live the life. The drastic cutting of weight I agree with totally dangerous leaving yourself severely dehydrated.
Just look at Froch lives the life... and complete with being a double hard ******* and look at the longevity he's got even with his style look at hatton well conditioned stamina machine in his early days but as he got older being doing too many beers and take away etc screwed him Look at Hopkins lives like an athlete still is one. Mayweather getting on in years for the lower weights is still number 1 by a mile. You have to dedicate yourself to it make no excuses. Some guys can drop a lot of weight quickly but it gets harder and the more shortcuts you take the bigger the effect. You have to live around fight weight that way your body has the best chance of being 100%
Boxers go right down in my estimation when they fail to make weight. It's a dead giveaway that they're not living the life like pros should.
Exactly , guys like Brandon Rios and Canelo Alvarez have done it a few times deliberatley aswell , they deserve a kick in the balls in my opinion
When training Ricky he only had real trouble once making weight his last fight at SFW There was never an issue at LW, if your eating and drinking the night before the weigh in how can you be dead at the weight, I've heard nightmare stories about weight making surviving on two bits of fruit and a bottle of water for 2-3 days before weigh in is totally shocking The difference between your bro Steve (WC) and a 12 round fighter world title fighter is night and day and there's no comparisons whatsoever
As Jim Mcdonnel said ''Degale never spars at 12 stone.'' Simply because on fight night he is at least 12 stone 10lbs.
Canelo Alverez is dead at the weight imo, he also made 10st 12lbs to fight Mayweather and looked like a prisoner of war in the days leading up to the weigh in.
No coach worth his salt would have a boxer sparring near his fight weight, you'd generally spar at the weight you'd walk in the ring at or slightly heavier
See this is where I see it going wrong billy. If a fighter spars at his ring weight rather than fight weight. Usually 10lbs heavier in average in most cases. The last spar is usually 1week before the fight which worrys me a trainer expecting his fighter to drop 10lb in a week and this IMO is where the damage is being done in terms of struggles dehydration and guys ending up a punchy mess. Slow n steady is defo the way 2pun a week and less danger to the fighter.
there are ways you can get rid off 4-5lbs **** easily a lot of boxers take off 7-8lbs off the night before.
I know made I've tried it whilst training with my brother. Epsom baths in sauna suits etc. it's not good nor advisable mate u feel like fcuking death. Hence why I was posting about various theory's and thoughts. Any trainer who allows there fighter to box severely weight drained has moral issues they simply shouldn't allow it. Kerry Kayes talks well about it in the Jamie Moore documentary where they took near a stone off him in 24hrs pre fight.
