Over the years whether it be on forums down at the local boxing club or having a jar with the boys down at our local ive always sang praises for carl frampton. Even before he won the celtic i was telling anyone whod listen that not only will this kid be a w.champ but hell be a very strong one at that. From the very start when Scott Quigg was been mentioned as a opp for Carl Frampton i never gave him a chance. Now i am in real appreciation of Quigg. in my eyes hes narrowed his chances down from a punchers chance to near on 50/50. Whilst his skill ability is not the same as carls thats not the be all and end all what goes into making a fighter. Having the right mental attitude, dedication and determination, not getting emotionally involved and been able to carry out your trainers instruction all go into the pot. One more crucial element is heart or gameness as it is also known the ability to not cur when under real pressure the fact that if youve had a beating put on you you can still fight with the same self belief and increased determination as when you came out at the 1st bell. Neither of these 2 lads have been in this final situation yet well at least not in a pro fight so i cant comment on how theyll deal with such a situation. But all the desirables listed before Scott ticks all those boxes. I do believe that all of us wholl be rooting for carl should acknowledge that scotts turned into a great fighter and one that fully deserves to be in that ring nxt wk. Hes more than done well for himself through real determination hes fighting for something most can only dream of. Well done Scott Quigg youve made yourself into a top fighter.
Ye mate just thought that scott does deserve some acknowledgement and credit from us frampton fans. Also at least its talking boxing which is more than how most threads go nowadays
Agreed. And then Quigg opens his mouth and calls himself the money man! He's never been a headliner, had arenas built for him, filled a venue by himself etc.
Well said. I'm a fan of Frampton and will be backing him on the 27th, but Quigg is a fighter who's improved and really dedicates himself to the sport. The only downside is that his trainer loves the camera...
Ditto what you said to the TS, but the Wee Fella is a massive egomaniac, and his son is getting way too much credit for what Gerry Storey did.
Don't agree that Barry is an egomaniac, I've met him a few times over the years (last a few years ago on the Hatton / Senchenko undercard of which Quigg ironically boxed on the undercard of) and I've found him to be a decent down to earth bloke. Never met Shane, but he seems to speak sense. Also every time I've heard him in the corner, his advice seems spot on.
He's obviously a good trainer who's got a talented stable on his hands, but he doesn't half love the camera!
Do admire the way Scott has handled himself throughout all the verbal confrontations. He's coped far better than Mcguigan and Frampton thought he would. The fight to me is a case of one guy who's been slightly over-rated in his career versus a guy who has been under-appreciated. If only he wasn't trained by Joe Gallagher, a guy I just can't support.
Seriously you should give it a rest about frampton a populatlrity in Ireland. It's not like he's popular for any reason than circumstance. He's not a p4p fighter and his personality isn't going to set the world on fire. He's a nice guy and a descent boxer but he's just fortunate with where he's from and the surrounding circumstances. At least if he does lose next week you could always get him a trophy for a popularity contest or because he's apparently so much more intelligent than quigg they could both go on countdown
+1 here too. Don't mind Scott at all, and wouldn't really mind who wins next week. The reason I'm slightly leaning towards wanting Frampton to do it is because of the way Joe Gallagher and Hearn carry on sometimes.
Let's not forget the facts here. Frampton is a true champion, a true star. He has won his title in the ring, filled arenas, headlined bills etc. Quigg is none of the above. Quigg is just a decent challenger, that's all, another challenger.
