I don't know what truly happened, but Atlas has been prone to severely overreacting in the past. Read his own story about what he tried to do to Donny Lalonde. Of course Tyson too has a history of doing things such as that.

Atlas handled the situation like a person with a bad temper handles the situation but that doesn't necessarily make it right. We don't really know what went down but I don't see pulling a gun on a teenager as a "disciplinary" action of any kind, even if it was Tyson.

I know Tyson gets more sympathy than he probably should from some people but are we supposed to act that a 15 year old is somehow comparable to an adult only because it was Tyson? That he was supposedly some mastermind who cunningly begs for sympathy even though the media hasn't given him any? Only his rabid fans on the internet do.

He has lived a rollercoaster of a life and is still standing, which is deserving of some respect in my opinion.

some years ago "fight doc" himself, ferdie pacheco wrote that jack dempsey in his hard up early days was "a profesional ****** of virgins" does anyone have any more facts on this?

As i understand it jacks first wife was a "pro" and they had a kind of marriage of convienience. perhaps jack protected his wife as a semi pimp so he could train full time earlier in his career? In his books dempsey always claimed he was inocent and only realised she was in business much later on. which he would do.

personaly I think pacheco's claim is a step too far. either the great man or dr ferdie is the scum bag?

He was a 5'10, 212lb 15 year old who knew nothing else but how to party and hurt people. Tyson at age 15 could knockout most people who were 30. Nobody is saying Atlas is a saint, he has a huge temper and has been getting into streetfights his entire life, but he was completely in the right for pulling the gun out on Tyson.

No, not just Tyson. 15 is old enough to know right from wrong. And a big strong 15 year old criminal needs to be treated in some ways like an adult.

But the point with Tyson is that he was getting into these scrapes consistently, before and after he was rich and famous. If he had stopped at 15, we wouldn't even be discussing him on this thread.

He was certainly a manipulator. And made excuses for his behaviour for a long time. I dont think he needs to be a "mastermind" to do so.

That he was supposedly some mastermind who cunningly begs for sympathy even though the media hasn't given him any? Only his rabid fans on the internet do.

He made an easy life difficult for himself. He may have come from a very hard background but he was a millionaire at 19 or 20, and had the world at his feet.
He then made some awful mistakes and kept making them, over and over, and often acting a complete imbecile.

I dont even dislike Mike Tyson. I find him interesting and usually very amiable, and of course he shares our interest in boxing history, BUT I dont have much sympathy or respect for the way he ****ed up, or for the unsavoury behaviour he's demonstrated.

Atlas himself has come out with about 15versions of the story. 1 miniute shes a year younger than Tyson, next miniute shes 4years younger than Tyson, 1 miniute shes a random girl, next shes Atlas's niece, next shes some other relation of his. The mans credibility is

Do I need to state a lawyer would rip his statements to shreds?

Tyson never molested her. He only grabbed her, frightening her. Very very wrong on Tyson's part, but certainly nowhere near "molesting". People often forget that Tyson was under the age of 18 at the time. He was just a kid himself.

Pacheco doesn't know, but he was probably repeating claims about Dempsey that were made at the time in 1920 when Dempsey was being hounded as a "slacker" or draft-dodger.

Dempsey definitely dwelled in the underbelly of society in the 19-teens before his breakthrough. Hobo jungles, brothel saloons, wild west mining camps, that was his environment. Begging, fighting, working any job that bought him a meal.

It's possible he was charged with the task of "breaking in" young virgins for prostitution in those days.

No one ever accused him of **** after he became rich though.

Either way, similar stories followed Tyson his whole life, on a regular basis.

And what an example does that set to him? Tyson did Atlas and his family wrong, to what extent we don't really know, and Atlas's response was to pull the gun on him. The immediate reaction was that Tyson went crying home, problem "solved", but the lasting effect to Tyson may have been that it's perfectly justified to resort to violence when you've been done wrong and it certainly didn't teach him anything about treating women better as we saw later on. Yes he was a big strong kid but not an adult mentally. From what I hear D'Amato let him do as he pleased and on the other hand he had people like Atlas threatening to shoot him.

Atlas's reaction was perhaps justifiable, as I said I don't know the whole story, but not a disciplinary action by any means.

To be honest I'm not really up for such a debate as it's not really about boxing, but I'm just questioning Atlas's methods in general. He seems to go overboard a lot of the time.

They did get along extremely well here:

thats what I thought. so young virgins looking to join the hooker ranks were passed onto jack by his wife? tough times but no real proof of "profesional raping of virgins" thanks for that. It was practically still the wild west back then after all.

Atlas and Mike were a very good mix, the main problem was Tyson was going and out and doing whatever and D'Amato would have it all covered up. Atlas didn't think that was the right thing to do, but Atlas's temper exploded when Mike either touched, or tried touching his niece. And about the mentally part, even 26 years after the incident Mike has never showed to be up to par with most adults. He is clearly smart in some ways, but extremely screwed up in others.

What Teddy did might not have been the best way to go about the situation, but try looking at it from his point of view. You come home to a crying young girl who is your niece, you find out Tyson either tried to or did touch her, and you know nothing is going to be done about it anyway. Mike would have destroyed Atlas if Atlas didn't use a gun, Atlas might be a tough guy who was in his 20's and could fight, but Tyson was on a level above Atlas in fighting. The only way to even show Mike he meant business was to threaten his life, and Atlas did just that.
