Abe Atell was a nasty, nasty individual who worked the no-decision system like very few people have before or after during his career inside the ring; and who was accused of loading his gloves during some of his fights. On top of that, he may well have acted as Arnold Rothstein's liason in the Black Sox scandal of 1919...It certainly sounds like something that he'd do. Jiro Watanabe was a hell of a fighter, but he was arrested for blackmail after he retired, and was accused of threatening the lives of debtors, and was convicted of providing a gun to someone who was later prosecuted for murder. Not the nicest guy in the world, for the sound of it.
I'm sure I've read a story whereby someone turned up at Dempseys restaurant with Attell and Dempsey went mad and had them thrown out
maybe he was, but he also said in another interview that he was chubby when he first saw him, so which is it, one of the story's is a lie
Tyson was chubby when he was sent to the detention center, then he started and quickly became ripped and muscular.
Atlas is a well known fantasist with delusions of granduer. He did nothing of the sort. The real story involves him urinating in his pants and babbling something about 'the geography...the real estate of the long armed fighter', then pretending to be a boxer. And a boxing trainer. And commentator.
TYson is far from a scumbag:-( Just a misunderstood man, Yes i agree he has his issues but i dont believe the **** ever took place. I have my opinions on what happened that night i think he did what he wanted with her(she let it happen) and tossed her like all the other groupies, she was a complicated woman and etc etc. If anything i think Tyson is more good than bad.
No one knows for sure what happened except for Tyson and Washington but he was convicted when he had the best legal team and the presumption of innocence in his favour so without knowing the details of the case I'd guess she must have had some compelling evidence against him. He also bit a mans ear off in front of an audience of millions and bragged about beating Robin Givens (according to Jose Torres anyway) so there is at least a case to be made for Tyson being a scumbag.
The defense team was terrible. Vincent Fuller did help John Hinckley get off on insanity but I think he was usually doing tax stuff by then. The defense was like "Tyson's an animal, the ***** should've known better". Some of the journalists called it one of the worst jobs in defending a client they'd ever seen in a big case.
