Surf, I'm glad that Johnny Dundee finally get's his due on ESB. A few points : Benny Leonard lost a ND to Dundee in 1915 when Leonard was
but 19 years old. When Leonard was at his peak ,he beat Dundee the last
4 times in 1919-1920.
Dundee in about 335 bouts was stopped once by a NY LW Jackson ,who
timed a right hand on Dundee's chin after Dundee did his famous trick , when he would rebound from the ropes. Did it hundreds of times ,but this time he ricochetted into Jackson's timed right hand...
And Nat Fleischer always picked Johnny Dundee ahead of Willie Pep, for what it's worth...Dundee was a small edition of Harry Greb, throwing volumes of punches, and rugged as hell....

 

True, but when he fought him the following year Benny had considerable experience; enough that he could hardly be considered "green". He'd already fought Freddie Welsh twice (beating him once), lost a close one to Johnny Kilbane, drew with Dundee twice, beat Rocky Kansas, Ever Hammer, Philly Pal Moore, Patsy Kline and Joe Mandot.
