How can you say he was a quitter? Did you see the amount of punishment he had taken up until that point? What do you prefer, that he let himself endure more punishment to the point that his career (and more importantly, his life) would have been adversely affected?

He lost to a better fighter. He got beat up to the point of near exhaustion. That is what happened. He didn't quit.

    Why is it stupid?

Are you saying that it isn't clear that Cotto wanted the fight to stop?

Watch the fight. Cotto was going backwards (no punches were thrown) and then went down when Margarito was close.

I understand why he took a knee the first time. But twice?

It's not common cause his level of toughness and his determination isn't common. Many others wouldn't (and haven't) lasted half that long (i.e. Golden Johnson, Kermit Cintron). He took an unbelievable level of punishment and kept going until he couldn't anymore, without potentially risking his long-term health.

Doesnt make Cotto a coward. But he did quit, physically he could have gone and maybe survived the 11th if he had half the WILL Magarito had. He was was broken mentally and he took two knees without being knocked down and didnt want anymore he looked at his corner to bail him out. Thats quitting...even so amazing performance by Cotto.

If there was a risk on Cotto's health, of course I think his decision of quitting was appropiate.

Taking a lot of punishment is a good reason to quit, but it isn't a excuse.

Well we just agree to disagree, I'm not trying to say you are wrong or anything. I, like you, am just expressing my opinion. No hard feelings on my end.

Cotto and Margarito have the same reach. The man gave up. He quit in the fight and got out. From my view that is what I saw, but that in no way denigrates his skill level, it does affect my view of how much heart he has.

My girfriend would ask this kind of question if she was watching a fight with me. And her criteria to judge a match is by rooting for the cuter boxer.

You must be a functional ******. But with your 20,000 posts I can only assume youve watched a couple of boxing matches. And maybe you'd be able to understand that if a man was pressured in the manner he was by Margarito, and battered and rubber-legged, maybe the best idea would be to take a knee to give yourself some time to recover.

Cotto's corner throught the towel. There was no quit in Cotto. Im ashamed theres even a boxing "fan" like you.

I agree with you, had Maywweather done that, most here would;ve labelled him a quitter. But since its Cotto we dare not say that

It's become apparent that you haven't participated in many contact sports. Keep typing away, because that appears to be all that you're good at.

No, they don't have the same reach,
    Margo (5-11) is 73
    Cotto (5-7 or 8) is 67.

I just hate that people don't show the respect he deserves even in defeat
