If this is true then there are more arguments to call him a quitter.

yee tru say, dela hoya didn't quit he just coulden't get up from that bodyshot same as castillo when hatton put him down, castillo even said he could breathe properly and it physically impossible for him to get up within 10 seconds either way both dela hoya and castillo aren't quitters this is the same with cotto he is no quitter

actually, cotto had a very impressive 10th round, which could've gone either way. He gassed again in the 11th and was stunned by a big left uppercut.

I agree with you, he was mentally broken. I don't think his mind was ready for what fight it was going to be and he wanted to quit after the 9th.

    asterion..

i see where you are coming from..

but where i disagree, is with your trying to separate the 1 (knee/knockdown) and the second..

just up until the first knee, cotto was being hit with some pretty nasty shots, he was shaky and exhausted.. he got up, but that doesnt equate to, that he was fresh or in picture perfect condition..

to me the 2 knee, was a result of cotto knowing, that had he stayed up, he would just be knocked down, therefor trying to gain a breather and perhaps freshen up..

on one hand you could call it quitting, on the other you could call it intelligent thinking while exhausted, and being pressed beyond your limits..

no matter what, it wasnt cotto who quit, it was his corner who threw in the towel, so technically you cant be right.

but as i said, i can see you points, for what they are, i just dont think they are totally accurate..

I say a fighter is a quitter when he quits.

If Oscar did that, he quit. As simple as that.

But at least Hopkins landed a punch on him. :yep

Some of the comments in here are pretty sick. To label the guy a "quitter" in the derogatory sense in an insult to Cotto himself and a lame attempt to detract also from the significance of Margarito's victory. Cotto was beat up from round 6 and ate some huge shots to the head and body by a guy who kept coming and kept on throwing bombs. Cotto was physically battered into submission, anyone that wanted the man to continue when clearly out on his feet and in need of medical attention is not a fan of boxing. The man was hurt, he took a knee, does this make Gerrald McClellan a "quitter" too, should Cotto be allowed to chance a similar fate?

The fight should have been stopped after the first knock down. "Protect yourself at all times". Cotto was unable to do so, his legs were gone, hands were down and he was retreating into the corner on instinct.

    He had two choices:

He could have continued the fight (which might have been a bad idea, could have brought health problems, etc).

Or he could have done what he did. And receive the critics. Then return with another brave performance and silence the critics.

Was Oscar's face bloody like Cotto's.

Didn't you see the stats of power punches landed by Margo.

How many power punches Oscar took when fighting Bhops?

Ok. Both had attitudes of quitters. Cotto probably had more reasons to be like that.

    We agree? :tired

Asterion is nothing but a troll.

So Cotto had enough, and took a knee... technically, maybe he quit.. but Asterion is a disrespectful ****.

If the Mods on this board had any balls they ban these stupid ****s, and make this an actual respectable boxing forum.
