Overlin should be in there in my opinion.

I have never understoof why Tommy Farr keeps getting on the balots.

I rate him as high as anybody on this site and have vigourously argued that he is by far the best British heavyweight between Bob Fitzsimmons and Lennox Lewis.

I just think that if he is included then the better contenders from other eras should be.

Not your fault, M, but I suspect that was supposed to be confidential.

I am not on the selection committee; however I do know some people who are. By putting out this information on the web I hope to put pressure on the selection committee to make the best selections. There are a few voters who read this forum. Make a case and you might get a voters attention.

I do believe boxing has long ignored many of our talents in the lower weight in the Far East. I was a tad upset that George Godfrey got in last year, while pound for pound talent like Jung-Koo Chang did not. If Farr gets in before Chang or Williams……

In the spirit of getting their attention.

They should be ashamed to have produced such a list when great fighters like Jeff Clark are not even given consideration.

They might also like to take a closer look at the flyweight division.

But let us be honest, it is not about great fighters, it is about fighters with fame in western countries with a bit of tokenism thrown in for the rest. Hence the likes of McGuigan are there and the Chang's, Yuh's and Kingpetch's are not.

Greatness is IMO for the few, if you have a Hall of Fame with only great fighters, then would not need nominations every year, because great fighters do not come around every year.

I think a truly great fighter transcends nationality. The favoritism seems to come into play on the borderline candidates or on the upper weight candidates. Television exposure also plays a big role.

A candidate like Chang has a triple whammy. He’s not a Westerner, he fought in a lower weight class, and many of the voters aren’t familiar with him due to lack of Televison exposure.

These names are the ones on that list which jump out at me immediately. Upon review, I could well remove some names, and select some others from it. But this is a first impulse.

Larry Holmes should be a unanimous selection. As goes the heavyweights, so goes boxing, and boxing's last golden age was during Larry's reign.

    Johnny Bratton

    Jimmy Carruthers

    Tiger Jack Fox

    Betulio Gonzalez

    Yoko Gushiken

    Al Hostak

    Cocoa Kid

    Pone Kingpetch

    Tippy Larkin

Ernesto Marcel (borderline, did decision both Arguello and Serrano, and did retire as champion after handily decisioning Alexis)

Lloyd Marshall (not only does Marshall belong, but everybody who beat him during WW II is probably HOF calibre as well, in my book)

    Rinty Monaghan

Masao Ohba (The Sal Sanchez of his era. If he hadn't been killed, who knows? But he did enough to get in regardless, just like Sal.)

    Ken Overlin

    Eddie Perkins

Dave Sands (like Ohba, a Sal Sanchez for his era)

    Petey Scalzo

    Yoshio Shirai

    Kid Tunero

    Holman Williams

Hilario Zapata (one of boxing's last great 15 round champions)

Good list. You could very likely add Jiro Watanabe and Santos Laciar to the list, too.
