I'm trying to put together a semi-complete list in my head and I'm having a hard time coming up with very many names. Overly successful ones anyway. Is the ability for a small man to prosper in the HW division mostly dead? I know of Toney (Who's HW success is unbelievably mixed) and there's Tyson and Tua of course. But who else? Lets say the 1970 or so to now. ****** Fortune was a HW out of Australia, all 5'9 inches of him. Lennox actually fought against him in a tune-up fight right after the McCall loss. Speaking of Lennox, he also took on Lionel Butler who was 5'11. Butler put together a very impressive win streak once he actually had decent managment behind him, becoming one of the top ranked heavies in the world for a short time. Sparked Tubb's out in one round for starters. Who else? Trial horse to world class fighter, they're all good.
Remembering the fight, in my head at least, yes he definitely did all things considered. Shame he couldn't of made CW...
They did not get that much shorter than Qawi (Braxton). There was Mike Jones who must of been 5' 7" tops, as I always remember a Seconds Out, where he flattens the 10' 6" Big Bad James Oyebola!* *Sadly (for those who do not know), Oyebola was shot when asking a gang of Gentlemen to smoke outside of a friends club (as it was against the law to do so inside).
Qawi fought at heavy. Orlin Norris was pretty short for a heavy but he was really a cruiser who just had a few stints at heavy. Robert Hawkins was a dedicated heavy, he couldnt have been over 6ft. Gilbert Martinez and Saul Montana were both under 6ft. As Im sure a lot of mexican heavies over the years have been. Eric Esch..but Im sure his width makes him look shorter..I dont think he is that short actually. Kelvin Davis sorta. He was a heavyweight for a little while.
