Please no Pacman or anti-mayweather comments. I don't want this to turn into another pbf/pacman thread.

I just watched PBF/Chavez fight. After seeing everything that Mayweather can do with that shoulder roll defense it got me thinking.

Has there been any other defensive master that has used the shoulder roll as effective has Floyd?
    and
Do you think the art of the shoulder roll is dying? I don't recall seeing alot of fighter using the shoulder roll.

    james toney.

works very well because he is built like a tank. once he tucks his head, there is practcally nothing to hit.

    plenty of fighters.

the more notable ones who used it extensively include Toney and Archie Moore

james toney used it better than floyd

shoulder roll was only part of floyds defense, floyd also used the full guard and half guard while james toney used the shoulder roll as his main defense AND his offense.

Depends on your definition of tank.

He has extremely big upper body and shoulders. He might not be an A1 Abrams or the leopard type but definitely, he is rounder than most boxers.

So you would say James Toney was the best at using the shoulder roll?

Because Floyd is quicker and more athletic, I'd say Toney is better technically at the shoulder roll style. Toney's combinations are so much more fluid and flowing, while FLoyd potshots more.

One of my fav Toney vids. I think he did use the shoulder roll better than Floyd and arguably was more natural with it. This is him as a cruiserweight.

The better shoulder roller would be the person who get hit less using it...with = Mayweather hands down!

It's useless. Pac will fracture his shoulder if Floyd use this.
