[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3yRHAJmtlk[/ame] everything james toney did was a shoulder roll. And he did it with both ****ing shoulders right in front of your face. Being in front of Toney = your death sentence.
Here's one of the best performances by Toney: he steps up to super middle and in his third fight there completely schools veteran champ Iran Barkley. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEA2SRCPpkU[/ame]
the mundine / wood fight showed how the shoulder roll can go wrong, wood landed a overhand right that hit the top of mundines temple as he was rolling, and then a hook left. the roll is damn hard to use- and you have to not be flinchy at all, its pretty much putting yourself into the eye of the storm. i m sure alot of fighters practise it and can use it- but are hesitant and not as confident as floyd and toney- who make it look easy. but its not, you re open to alot of shots and if you dont roll precisely right- youre gonna get hurt.
look at how floyd treats gattis shoulder roll for example. right hooks to the body, overhand rights, left hooks to the body, heaps of vulnerable spots if you aint got the skills like toney and floyd. but i have to admit , when done right- it looks damn cool and is frustrating fot the other guy.
Just watched all those videos. I never really been into the big guys fighting so I haven't seen alot of James Toneys fights, but dude was nasty with that counter right hands. Thats the same short right hand uppercut that Floyd throws.
My favorite punch out of the roll is that right hand uppercut and the left hook to the body. Its so sexy.
There has never been a fighter who used to shoulder roll as well as Floyd uses it because of his upper body speed and athleticism. This is why he has gotten hit the least while using it. I know people like to look for ways to say that ANYBODY does ANYTHING better than Floyd because they feel like groupies giving one person soo much credit but tough sh%t girl-scouts. He's that effin good. End of.
awww poor baby everybody is out to get floyd. if you watched floyd long enough you would know floyd doesn't have a primary defense, he uses what he has to, he uses full guard when he has to, half guard, parry's, shoulder rolls, where as boxers such as toney use it as their bread and butter, their offense and defense. :|:|:| everyone stop saying floyd isn't the best.
Yeah I know. I'm just not into the bigger weight classes. Last Toney fight I seen was against Rahman. That was a borefeast.
