Which ATG heavy did he successfully defend against?

    I said fights, not defenses

Carnera's win against Loughran is a standout, though I wouldn't call him an ATG

The Similarities Between Anthony Joshua and Primo Carnera?

Hmm, let me think about this for a moment. They both have three vowels in their last names and enjoy Italian food?

Outside of their size, they really do not have much in common. Joshua is a better boxer and hits much harder.

On the point of stamina for the later rounds, actually, Carnera is probably better. Joshua's chin is better for sure, but I'm not saying its anything more than just above average. Carnera despite his massive frame and head was chinny.

Loughran was 84lbs lighter and couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag. 71kos Carnera couldn't even floor him.

So? Diminishing returns. Carnera was probably at too heavy of a weight to keep up

Btw Loughran was a defensive genius, so yeah, no wonder Carnera didn't get him down

Sharkey with a 25% ko record managed it.

Carnera was among the best heavies of the 1930s which was downtime for heavyweight boxing. Yes-- he's in the hall of fame. Almost all lineal heavyweight champions are too. It's just the way things go, but as a heavyweight champions go no one thinks he was one the top 20 that I read. There might be an oddball, but someone will have to show me and I've archived about 50 lists from historians.

I do think Carnera is unfairly picked on a bit, but he's no Anthony Johsua. On Joshua, he needs to fight Wilder or Fury soon. If he waits for Wilder ( age 33 now ) to age a bit, I'll frown on that. Joshua could cement his legacy in 2019. Fury in April, Wilder in November.

Imo it was arguably the weakest period in boxing (that and the Wladimir Klitschko era, and the John L Sullivan era duke it out in my mind)

I didn't know about Carnera's HOF status, so thanks

Even in terms of h2h he doesn't break my top 30 HWs. Pretty sure he's in the lowest quarter of my "lineal heavyweight champ greatness" list

Carnera is picked on way too much. And Joshua really needs to prove himself against Wilder and Fury in 2019, I agree

Protected on theor way to the top lol

Joshua has had 22 fights, hes fought the then ranked number one (or 2 if you kept Fury in your rankings), number three at the time in Parker, number four in Povetkin and fighter who is now ranked top five in Whyte.

Hes also beaten Takam, Breazeale, Molina and Martin who were ranked top fifteen. Hed also signed to fight Pulev who was around 5-10 befkre he pulled out injured. He beat Kevin Johnson by KO in his tenth fight. A guy thay has fought Fury, Klitschko, Pulev, Chisora, Ruiz Jnr, Hammer, Charr, Dubois and Hrgovic and went the distance despite the majority been way more seasoned when they fought him.

Saying he has been protected is laughable really, you ll be hard to find a heavyweight in history who has as impressive a resume in 22 fights nevermind currently.

For comparison after 22 fights Wilder hadnt fought anyone ranked in the top 100. Furys was decent but he still hadnt fought a top ranked contender though Chisora x2, Cunningham, Johnson, Pajkic isnt a bad record for that amount of fights.

Millers best win in 24 is Duhaupus and he has shot Adamek, Washington and Dinu to boot plus a draw.

A four inch height difference is going to be a lot more pronounced between 5'8" Hagler and 6'0.5" Hearns than it would be between Baer and Wilder. So in reality Baer would be off by about two Mandarin oranges rather than apples, adjusting for scale.

    Edit: big mandarin oranges

Chill bro, it’s not personal. Many of us more or less thought the same thing.
