The similarities in Pac/Clottey & Trinidad/Hopkins are downright scary!!

I'm bookmarking this thread. If the Pacman beats Clottey you will bow down.

I see the vague comparisons, but I think your post is little .. well .. vague, threadstarter.

Hopkins was (and is) an smart fighter with a very high ring IQ; he used his abilities, craft and guile to eliminate what Tito brought to the table, nullifying all his strengths, thereby not letting him in the fight. This, in hindsight, was rather easy for hopkins because he was a MUCH bigger and stronger man, which added on top of his excellent plan and tactics.

Pac is too multi-dimensional for this kind of plan to work, at least not in such "simplicity". Pac brings so much to the table that if you nullify one thing he still has a dozen more things to trouble you with. On top of that he has roach with him, who as we know, is great in the art of tactics and studying his opponents.

Clottey has a huge size and strength advantage, and he is an excellent, solid fighter, but he has lapses in his game that Pac can really take advantage of.

clottey definitely has a chance in this fight, thats for sure, but I cant see him stripping Pac of his qualities and beating him down like Hopkins did to Trinidad.

If Clottey wins, Bob Arum will be getting talked down off the roof of Cowboys Stadium.

Hopkins knows what his opponent will throw before he does. Cotto knocked Clottey down by beating him to the punch. The same Cotto that Pacquiao beat to the punch time and time and time again.

Pacquiao is closer to Hopkins than Clottey is.

the comparison is terrible. The only chance Clottey has against Pacquiao is to walk him down and outmuscle him. Hopkins outsmarted Trinidad.

    2 things:

Tito is more proven at 147 than Pac is....
Tito is not a one handed fighter.

I'm going to assume you mean Pac is more proven at 147 than Tito was at 160 going into the Hopkins fight because then that would make more sense even if one chooses to disagree.

I would love for Clottey to win and I do see situational parallels but the similarities are way off in terms of Boxing ability. Tito was not as versatile as Pac. Clottey is a good defensive fighter but he can't find a way to win like Hopkins does. Speed will be the difference in the fight as is with all of Pac's fights.

STUPID. Hopkins dominated Trinidad with his boxing skill. There is no such gap or disparity in Pacquiao/Clottey.

I was thinking about that recently. Pacman however is not as one-dimensional as Trinidad was and Clottey is not on the level BHop was though he was unheralded at the time. Tito also was unable to enter the ring with his questionable wraps.... If Manny is entering the ring questionably in any way, we won't know about it. So perhaps some parallels can be drawn but not really the same scenarios.

The TS is REALLY reaching if he is doing this comparison based on ring styles, because BHOP-Trinidad and Pac-Clottey are too far from comparison for words. I can see a stark similarity as far as Trinidad and Pac's intense following in their respective native lands though.

I don't think for one minute that team Pac is underestimating Clottey. I however realize a habit of Clottey's that they will exploit to the max: he catches punches waiting to return his own(he reaffirmed that in his most recent interview) Clottey will find out that 1) Pac's so unorthodox with his punches that more will get through than he realizes and 2) Pac will go in and out punching away using different angles all night without slowing down and run up the numbers on Clottey. Clottey will time some good connects but they won't add up to what Pac will be landing because he just doesn't throw much compared to Pac. Clottey's strength won't matter if Pac keeps up the high punch count and skittish hard to time movement. A stoppage is highly unlikely(defintely not a clean KO or even a trip down ***** street) but if Pac is dominant enough he could get Clottey's corner to stop it....but Clottey should be competitive enough to prevent that from occuring.

Clottey could very well be the Yaqui Lopez of the welterweights. Very capable but loses the biggest fights. BTW I don't think Clottey could carry Lopez's jockstrap. Yaqui Lopez was a great 175 lb fighter who fell to ATG 175 lb fighters after giving them all they could handle(like Matthew Saad Muhammad and Victor Galindez) Clottey is a very good fighter who shows he has the ability to win but somehow manages to fall short somehow. His style will be his undoing against the Filipino buzzsaw.

Oh and whoever made the comment Pac being beat like a pinata, if that was meant to be racist then it's more ******ed than it is racist. I thought pinatas were a part of Mexican culture and that Pac is filipino.
