The sky commentary team are too biased!

As much as I find the Sky Sports Commentary Team irritating, frustrating and annoying the real damage is being done to young impressionable boxing fans, casual fans and new fans to the sport.

They tune in, listen, get involved and they are being misinformed constantly, Adam Smith justifies all the bias and misinformation by saying "Scoring is subjective", "it's what you like" and changing scoring criteria during every fight depending on what the Matchroom fighter is doing.

Adam Smith was basically saying the KO last night came out the blue, that says all you need to know about what they thought they were watching, I saw it coming, 99% of you saw that coming, the crowd saw it coming.

Maybe not that spectacularly but definitely a stoppage, Bellew was hurt at the end of the previous round, he looked tired, he was getting caught more and more as the fight went on, he started to look loose around the knees and he was starting to unravel.

The only people who didn't see it coming were Adam Smith, Froch, Haye who were so deep in Bellew they couldn't see anything.

They should have sacked Froch on the spot after round 5, a clear Usyk round, clear, no debate but Froch gave it 10-10. That was such a bias and terrible score for round 5 it was inexcusable, Froch couldn't justify that score, no way.

I'm loyal to my friends, very loyal, but I'm honest, if a friend of mine was losing or lost I'd say so and I'd expect my friend to appreciate my honesty because if it was reversed I'd want that honesty.

I understand it must be difficult to say somebody you know, a friend, somebody you work with and are close to is, losing, getting beaten up or struggling but it's your job, it's your responsibility to commentate and not show bias or favouritism.

Enough is enougn now, they need to change it up, have a meeting and discuss what is happening ringside and maybe take a step back and away from the fighters if having relationships with them away from events is seriously effecting their judgement.

They're all friends and everyone is making good money so nothing will change. I can't say much because I bought the fight. I wanted to see it and streams are unreliable. I was satisfied with the boxing. Allen's fight was hugely entertaining. Crolla had a good 12 round scrap and the main event was excellent viewing. The commentary once again though left me frustrated. They're genuinely ruining their shows. Problem is the casuals are too thick to realise, and actually listen to these idiots.

Been saying it for months; you think it can't get any more biased then it does.

And I agree that the snarling, snarky mob on social media are very much influenced by the commentary.
Most are thick football fans who are not exposed to it for their beloved Prem League matches so when they start getting shilled in boxing have no idea it's happening to them.

It's very "casual and his other half just in from the pub" friendly i.e. Matchroom's target audience.

McGuigan, McCrory and Watt are badly missed, particularly the first two.

 

Which is the fundamental problem. The broadcast team are too pally with the fighters, and in too tight with the promoter. There is a heavy bias where they are either unable or unwilling to criticise the “home” fighter, or pick against them beforehand.

The end result is a heavily partisan production that adds little value to the action. Nelson was suggesting beforehand that Usyk hadn’t been tested uptil now, which makes you wonder whether he thought the fight with Breidis was an exhibition for shits and giggles.

While they were not perfect, the likes of Watt and McCrory had credibility and were not afraid to call it down the line. They didn’t bother about upsetting people, or being seen as unpatriotic if they didn’t act like a cheerleader for the home fighter. I remember Gary Mason going off on one because Frank Bruno had never fought for the British title. There may have been a personal side to it, but he had a fair point and it certainly wasn’t what Sky wanted to hear when they were trying to position Bruno for yet another world title shot.

Malignaggi is the one saving grace.

Good point I noticed that myself I think it was after the 5th haye froch ect getting into a frenzy because belles threw 3 punches at the end of the round.

 

I'm starting to wonder if Hearnz, Froch and the others are all scared of him. He strikes me as the kinda fella you don't want to get on the wrong side off.

 

Haha North Korea. Remember when Brazil were beating them 3 nil and they turned the telly off and told the country had they won the world cup. Probably be a sky trick down the line.

Agree with this and Nelson is a complete moron, but this is nothing new he’s been talking rubbish for years. I remember him saying Tim Bradley would be an easy fight for Khan ffs.

Tbh it’s a head stratcher that Sky have employed him after his career was so hit and miss. He had to relocate to Germany for years as he was so unpopular. Lucky for him Naz trained with him and got Warren to get him fights.

 

I agree he should be in some sort of room, and definitely in a box!!!

When Sky and Eddie say, he's gone from being a gobby loud mouth scouser to one of Britain's most loved fighters...am I missing something here??
